Hey Guy and Girls,
I am Martin, i am sasha's brother in law i thought i would join the board just to give you guys an update on how she going.
Sasha had a very serious accident on friday morning around 8:25 on racecourse rd in hamilton, I myself went to the scene of the accident around about 8:35 sasha had all ready been taken to hosiptal. i loaded her bike on to the back of the ute. the bit looked quite good, like a lowside at slow speed. at the scene her blood pressure was good to start with and then began to fall.
Sasha arrived at the hosiptal in a conscious state. When we arrived at the emergency ward we were quickly informed that her condition was of a VERY serious condition and that she would require immediate surgery. Due to internal bleeding, about 2 hours in to the surgery the anaythsist came to give us an update, at this stage we wer told that there was a very good chance that she would not make it out. but as time progressed more information was getting relayed to us. during the surgery the main concern was massive internal bleeding (30 unit's of Blood)
and we were told that she would be moved to the icu unit as soon as she came out of surgery. finally after 4 hours sasha was moved into the icu unit, her condition still very critical. she was in icu for about another 2 hours before the surgons informed us that if she was to stay in the icu unit she would likely die (still bleeding internally extensively) and that going back to surgery would be the only option to try and stem internal bleeding.
Around a further 2-3 hours she was brought back to the icu unit. in a little bit better condition. her condition was still very serious over the next few hours it was up and down. and them seem to become stable. over night the same trend continued. this morning the doctor in charge of the icu spoke to the family and informed us that sasha still beeing here is nothing short of a miracle, he told us that he gave her 99% chance of dieing yesturday and that her strength and stubourness got her through the night. he said to us that today's outlook in 75% chance. Also that if she pulls through that the next few / many months will be spent in the icu unit. So far the opperations that she has had is to save her life and that she may need more to fix any other breaks and dammage.
This afternoon she has been responding to family talking to her by very slight move ments in her body. Sasha is starting to bulid her own body heat which is a good thing also that her blood is starting to coagulate. her kidneys have "gone on holidays" and is on a dialysis machine all tho these
tiny steps are forward her overall condition is still very serious.
She still has use of all limbs and seems to be no brain dammage.
I hope this has been helpfull to those of you who know her
Please if ALL of you could keep her in your prayers and thoughts we need all the good will going her way as much as possible.
it's been a very long 24 hours for the family
if any one has questions you can email me at martin.cantwell@xtream.com.au
i will try to answer what ever i can when i get a chance to
Thanks
