What happens when you don't wear gloves...

Post by aardvark »

A friend recently sold his 01 ZX6 and bought this old dunger ZX9. Actually, it's not quite that bad... well, it wasn't.

Anyway, he went for a ride to the shop to get some milk and decided he didn't need to wear his gloves because it was hot. He chucked a wheelie, put it down too late for the corner, tried to brake and lost it...

This is the end result. All this because he didn't wear gloves!

dude could you put in a bit of a "gore" warning? not that i object to the pics as that is a bit horrific painwise and is something to think about. i just only half expected it.

Then again it is 1:23am and i am on a nightshift so i did leave my brain at home in a bottle.

Mmm, that looks tasty  Did you tell him he was a dickhead? I would have. His bike looks pretty damned ugly, must have gone down hard. I am guessing he won't be riding for a while till those hands heal! Ouch!

Ouch! Painfull for the hands and the bike.

I always wear my leather jacket, gloves and leather, steel cap work boots no matter how hot it is or how short the ride. To work I wear jeans and on all leisure rides it's full leathers and proper riding boots.

I'd rather slide on cowhide them my skin. Besides the leathers heal a lot faster (just repair or buy a new set) then my skin.

Or more specifically because he played silly buggers and fucked up while not wearing gloves.
I ride without gloves and jacket every now and then - it's a matter of risk assessment and riding appropriately. I wouldn't do it on a ride on the old pacific highway for example.

Ohh ahh, that's gotta hurt.

I agree with Tony, it comes down to risk management. I won't go hard or do clever things, without full gear.
But I am sure he didn't go down the to shops expecting to pop it up. Spur of the moment thing, probably. Kid on the side of the road going"go on do a wheelie" rush of blood, bang.

Were all done shite and thought, maybe I shouldn't have done that. Hein sights a beautiful thing.

Hope he heals quickly.
