Anu suggestions for selling my bike?

Hi All,

Sadly I'm going to sell my gpx250 in next month, because I'm moving to overseas and will stay there for few years. Just need some suggestion when I sell the bike, please. Iit is my first bike and I've no experience selling vehicles before :?

So my gpx was bought in Oct 2005, new. and the bike condition is really good. It has 12600 km on clock and I do have full service record. I'd be very happy if it can be sold for $5000

I need to get a RWC for the vehicle, and post the ad to websites or papers.....that's about as far as I know. Anything else that I need to notice? Like..if people want to test ride, what do I need to do? (Basically I'm just worried that people may drop it or somehow bad things happens)

I'd say dont let people test ride it unless you know them really well or you follow on another bike/car. Alternatively pillion them for a ride. Too many bikes get stolen on test rides from what i hear..

As for the price, maybe see what a dealer would give you and make it more than that and check out what other similar bikes are going for privately. Depends how fast you want to sell it really.

yea mate..no test pilots..its a gpx- most of em will be learners..tell em to test ride one at a dealer or sumthin..otherwise if they bin it they pay for it...

I wouldn't buy a bike without riding, that's for bloody sure.

Ask for a drivers licence and note the name, address and licence number whilst they are out. Don't return the licence until they return with the bike.

depends how well or if u kno em at all...

if u do let em ride it, follow ...or have a mate go with em...and yea keep their licence... til bike gets back...make sure its insured ...and keep a record just in case they do run a light or get a speeding fine...

Some tips I've always stuck to

When they ring and ask to see the bike, ask for a landline number to ring them back on and then organise the meeting.

Meet them somewhere other than your place if your worried they might try and come back to knock it off (may not be a problem with a GPX250 as they're probably not top of the list for organised thieves). Near Police stations is great for this (makes the bastards wonder what you do for a job and if they're dodgey they probably won't show)

If they want a ride, make sure your insurance covers any crash damage, let them know that if they bin it they own it (you'll struggle enforcing that one though), get shitloads of ID, and if you've got another bike or a mate that can go with them (and can ride a bit) then have them followed. Check your insurance cover too as most won't cover theft during test rides.

Good luck with it. You migt struggle with 5k for your bike though. I've got a mate looking for 250's at the moment and you can get a 2006 with 3000 klms on it from a local dealer for 5k at the moment. Give it a try though

I'd disagree with that point. I don't have a landline, if anyone wants to call me they ring the mobile. Most of my mates don't bother with landlines either.

I'll ask around some dealers to see of price I asked is right first, and then I'll post ad.

Will an agreement for the buyer to sign work at all? When I ask to test ride in dealer they made me sign a form but I can't really remember what it is. Just wondering how much the agreement can enforce the seller and the buyer though.

If you are licenced to cary a concealed weapon, do so.... GPX bikes are very popular for gang members and such....

hehe Just kidding....

Just remember, Set yourself a limit at which you are willing to part with it....... Do NOT go below that limit.....

It's personal choice but a landline ties the caller to a physical location. If someone rang me and said they didn't have access to a landline I'd probably say thanks for the inquiry but sorry.

r.e. just be upfront and try to sort the tyre kickers out from the genuine buyers. Sight a drivers license is a must. Also a handy hint a friend gave me is have something printed up that they fill their name/lic number/the date stating they will pay any costs for repair and readvertisement if they cause damage to the bike while the bike is still in your ownership, remember that verbal agreements mean precisely jack shit in court(if it comes down to that).

Also for what its worth, when i sold my last two bikes, the first i was a real p.i.t.a to the guy and took him on the bike as i really couldn't afford to loose the bike (admittedly i had no idea on how to sell a bike). He bought it after fucking me about for a week or so.

Second bike sale, i advertised it on ebay, got a bid, the guy fugged me about for a week and then his wife saw the bike and he never returned any of my calls. F*ing asshole, at least i got him booted off ebay and a refund for my fees :).

Oh then i put it on bikesales on friday evening and i got a phonecall within 5 minutes of it being put up on the net.I spent about 20 minutes on the phone answering various questions about the bikes history etc... Then the evening the next day she came to look at the bike and get the opinion of a friend of hers who also rides. She gave herself two days to think it over and then test rode it. I sold it about twenty minutes later on. Oh and when i met her at my units, i had the bike sitting in the middle of the unit parking lot and the garage closed so that if they weren't legit they'd not know where it was being kept.

Mate camera phones are handy too,take a pic of their license,them and your bike before they leave so you have evidence of bikes condition before they leave,and on return.Ask experience(prob not much on a 250) and make a judgement call on whether to let them test ride,some people ask a deposit before a ride which is put into an envelope and sealed and both parties sign the amount is correct before a ride.

Agree 100%. I would flatly refuse to deal with anyone who insisted on only using a mobile number.

Then again, you all know my opinion of mobile phones anyway..... :lol:
