AAAWWWWW guys... all the wonderful comments on the 2000-ish ZX6R!!!!!! tis truely a GREAT bike!!! I test rode everything and all the ones inbetween, AND i USED to HATE Kwaks... but someone talked me into testing ALL bikes, regardless of make, and i was HOOKED on the first ride! may upgrade to real kwak color next time around as well I am so proud of the make now!
anyway, the versions of my bike that have the 636 are better, but they were dearer at the time, and I couldn't justify the difference in cost..... plus, i couldn't find a non-green one (like i said, now i wouldn't mind that!)... NE Way, try all makes/models etc for YOU... you'll be surprised! don't have to stay "loyal" to any one make as they are big ass companies that don't care about you, just get whats right for you....... goodluck, and let us know what you get!

i have a 03 zx6 (636) in black.. (black is faster, not green)
it's a bloody awesome bike, but no way would i call it comfortable. it's really heavy on your wrists, unless you're 4 foot tall then it's ok...
I've only been riding for 6 months, and the zx6 is a incredible change from my 250. I only had it 5 days and i dropped it (cosmetic damage and broken footpeg)..
The 03 models are a real handful, i've had my suspension softened, but it still tries to throw me off everytime it's anywhere near a bump.. and it aint sorry either..
If you like to cruise, get the older zx6 or a different bike..

Go with the 2002 zx6r. That way you get the 636 engine but you don't have the hard as a rock, jumps over bumps rear end of the current model.
Real bravery is being afraid but doing it anyway.

I agree... I have the 02 636 and I love it!

I just need someone to help me set it up and it'll be good as gold... Also picking up a carbon rear hugger for it this morning. Woo Hoo! :D

Go get yourself a '98-'04 model ZX9R and have some real fun, great tourer, awsome sports (if a little porky now compared to new models), good two up and plenty of scope for spares and aftermarket parts.
I reckon if your big enough to cope with slow speed manouvering you can't go wrong with the 9R.
Check out the secondhand prices, low K's good price.
Even better are the last models still in the showrooms, if you can get one.
The new ZX10 is the new boy on the block and has forced prices down a lot.Bargain 9's are there to be had.
Test ride all then try a 9.Maybe you will like it??
Have fun and enjoy spending the money, cause your gonna have a ball on whatever you spend it on.
Enjoy
Take it easy

Damon i beg to differ mate. The 9 is a great bike n i wouldnt have anything else 8) , but i think its a damn long way from a zzr250 for a young lady with less then 2 years on a bike. Angel go for an old model zx6r up to 02, if that doesnt lite your wick I'd be very surprised.

Brett, I agree with you. There's a few, ummm, "bigger" blokes on this forum that ride 6's. I know I'm happy with mine. Just sucks for trips to PI.

:? come on people complaining about wrist pain on sportsbikes!
Some of the time wrist pain can be associated with bad posture. When riding, hug the tank with your knees, keep elbows bent (and in), adjust your weight onto the footpegs and keep your back straight. I rode frome Brisvegas to PI and back on the zx7r ninja (approx 5600kms average 700km/day) no back pain or wrist pain.
Having said that get the bike that suits your body, I could not get comfy on my brother's R6 or my other brother's 954 Blade. Setting the bike up correctly eg. clutch and brake levers is also critical for comfort.

I reckon it's also dependant on how often you ride and how far you are used to riding. I was certainly more comfortable riding to PI this year than I was last year on the exact same bike. The difference is one year and a lot more longer rides inbetween.

i have changed my riding style so it's not so bad on the wrists.. but I found i had a sore back from being thrown around so much in the countryside..

Hey,
I get where your coming from guys and I will agree with you that a 9 has a lot of weight/power to tame, but I still think it is down to the rider and if they feel comfortable/confident with what they have.
I do appologise for not noticing she was such a new rider and armed with that info I think your correct in what you are saying.
The 636 is a great bike and it would be a good step.
Good luck to her.
Catch u later.
