There's no technique involved. No matter what you do, the lean angle will still suck.

Just watch out for the centre stand scraping. It can be a right pain in the arse when it throws you way off line.

One thing to be wary of tho, is the way you need to change gears on these things. if you keep chaning gears the same way you do on the 9, you'll need a new box before long.

The beemers tend to require a little pre-tension on the lever. For up changes, hook your foot underneath the lever, apply a little pressure, feather the clutch and you'll be set. Make sure you hold your foot under the lever for a second or two tho, because they have a tendancy to jump out of gear.... any gear!!

As for downchanges, a decent blip on the throttle and a little downward pressure before pulling in the clutch should sort you out.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you that gear changes on a Beemer are supposed to be noisy. If you're chaning gears properly, they should be silent and clunkless.

Thanks Aardy it's nice to know that about the box. I had a mixture of changes on the test ride from intial missing them completely, to clunking to silent. It was an operator problem though and not a fault!  However, when you get it right (silent and smooth as you described above) it feels like you have missed it it is so smooth! A couple of times I went back down and clunked it back up to make sure it was in! I'll get used to it over the coming months I am sure! With the new rear ends (I havn't ridden the newer stuff much) do they still rise up when on the gas Aardy?

Not really. They can be ridden hard enough when needed (the new ones are even bigger and heavier than the one you have) but they handle like a barge.

Grab the owners manual and find out all you can about adjusting the suspension. I have my bike wound up as hard as it will go and it still wallows mid corner.

It came with an owners manual, and also a full workshop manual. I havn't picked the bike up yet, but he has already given me the workshop manual. It looks like a relatively simple machine to maintain on some areas, and a friggin nightmare in others!!!

Maate!!! get with the times! I'm just ahead of you guys in the fashion stakes now is all!!! Don't you realise that boxer engines are all the rage now!!! Subaru use them and even Porsche use them! So get with it mate! Trust me....it's really cool to be seen riding around on A white shaft driven air cooled horizontally opposed bavarian twin  , now we are in the noughties!

I'll have to fit it with an MP3 player, and a charger for the lappie and the phone and I saw a portable ciggie lighter powered coffee machine the other day which would fit in the top box no worries!
