Warning! Ebay Scams are now appearing in online classifieds.

Post by Strika »

As most will know, i have been trawling around the national classifieds ads on Bikesales, bikepoint and trading post looking for a new grandpa bike. Among some of the ads, I noticed the odd bargain. Not a 2000-3000 dollar bargain...but more like a 6,000-8,000 bargain!!! I thought this was too good to be true, so I emailed the seller. Got this reply....

"Please take a few moments and read this email carefully because you may be the next owner of this beauty.

The price for it is $ 6,000. The bike is in perfect condition and has no mechanical problems. No scratches or dents, no accidents. All services have been made at a BMW Service in time.

The bike is AU model and has a Clear Title which you will receive with the bike. It can be registered to your name without problems. The bike was mostly garage kept.

Regarding the payment I am aware of the buyer's protection and specially I will use an SafeTrader Third Party which will hold the payment until the buyer will receive the product.

I will wait for your email to let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about the purchase and please reply asap and let me know where are you located (your full shipping address) to calculate shipping cost.

Thanks,

Paul"

Looks like the ebay scammers are now hitting our local classifieds!!!!! be warned! I reported it to bikesales and they have removed the ad!

Andi, If you read my post in full, and are still asking how I know it's a scam, can I interest you in a share in the West Gate Bridge for a bargain price???

Both of you settle OK!!! There are plenty of shares in the bridge still available!!! :D And with the threat of tolling the bridge...it means savvy investors like you guys and possibly Andi, if he is as smart as you guys; are in on the ground floor!

Now as for when your share certificates will arrive, I am waiting on two things! 1. Your cheques to clear.....and 2. the ink to dry

Heres how
exhibit 1
The bike is AU model and has a Clear Title which you will receive with the bike.
Title is an american term, we use the terms "rego" and "receipt" here.

exhibit 2
Regarding the payment I am aware of the buyer's protection and specially I will use an SafeTrader Third Party which will hold the payment until the buyer will receive the product.
Nothing as simple as giving someone your bank account details and transferring the funds directly to it while you organise shipping to the buyer. Never seen anyone use escrow for buying interstate. Also, which f*ing state is is supposed to be in?

The last clue is that he seems to be using a bit of a form letter in his reply, not bothering to change anything other than the basics when responding to anyone.

But yeah, overall it reads exactly like a scam add from ebay.

Some people do fall for it.
My Mum was close to a old cane farmer who did 60 Grand.
wasted another 10 going looking for it.

Hmmm ... damn I would fall for that especially if it was $7000 ZX10R or $2,000 westgate bridge :?

Just last month someone offered me a nice computer table on Ebay, the one I currently bid for and I actually sent the bastard my details. Lucky a quick search of his username in google revealed it was a scam :x
