Electric Push Bike!

Post by Saki »

G'day guys,

just wanted to share a bit of an experience i had.

My dad being the gadgetty type he is, bought one of those electric hub motors for the push bike.

At first i laughed thinking, wat a silly idea. But then having a closer look at the setup i was actually quite impressed.

The motor is a 1kw motor which is attached to the front wheel. The throttle is the same as a motorcycle twist handle grip. Front disk brakes, 21 spd road/mountain setup. The battery pack is strapped under the rear seat.

Now seeing someone riding this thing u would just assume a normal push bike and there isn't many outstanding features.

But i took this thing for a ride and i tell u wat, i was impressed! with a small amount of peddling, looking at the speedo i was sitting on 60kp/h which isn't bad for how little peddling i was doing!

From the times its been ridden from a full charge, apprently you can get close to 100km's which is quite good if ur commuting!

Plus it was quite cheap, $1200 for the complete setup. Plus this is very cheap transport as the only real cost involved is plugging it in when your not riding to make sure the batteries are fully chagred. Although by law its over its power rating and is classed as a moped, really who is going to be concerned?
So no rego, no petrol, clean, quite, fast, convient!

Now the only down side i have seen to this thing is when it runs out of charge (liek i experienced) its bloody heavy to ride, but then again, its lighter to push this than to push a motorcycle!!

if anyone is interested, swing me a PM!
