most of my riding since ive had a licence is with sum1 on the back..i ride
harder, faster, and safer with a pilllion....a few handy tips..
*it takes longer to slow down, so anticipate
*get em to hold on tight with their legs
*dont hold the rider!!!!!!!!!!!! put there hands forward, on the
tank....this stops ur nuts getting crunched, keeps em forward, and wen u
accelerate hard they still have u to grab if they need to.
ride smoother...u HAVE too if u want em on at the end!!
i use to take leanne oin the back, she had never had ne experience b4..now i
have taken many inexp pillions, and never have a problem.
leanne was so confident she use to play wiv her phone (sms ppl) while we
were carving thru the hills...she would also wave at bikes as we wheelied
past em!!
she saw over 200kph many times & knew that "one tap on the leg meant hang
on", and "2 taps on the leg meant HANG ON FUKIN TIGHT"..thats my system...
getting away from the lights etc keep ur weight forward or ull flip
it...again..SMOOTH is the key...
wen u wanna gas it up, pillion turns there head sideways & tucks in behind
u...
hope that helps..

Bit long as well sorry
Some damn good info in this Booze you keeping up ok ?.
Yodas search engine did the hard yards again that covers most of it. As for the personal Tips you all need to unscrew your legs from the knees down reattach your ankles n feet n come an see where Ratmick & I Live.

Bretts Advice to HIS Pillions
Rule 1 .... Dont move an inch while we are stationary, if the bike is slidng along the bitumen feel free to "breakdance" at will. Minimal movements are best most of the time.
Rule 2 ... Stay centred all the time n lean forward. "nothing worse then a pillion tipping you into a corner, oh wait yes there is, one tippping you half way through a corner".
Rule 3 .... I always wear Jeans so Right hand in Front belt tag of my jeans thats the "Go hanger onerer", Left hand on the left belt tag on the back of my hip "thats the Stop Pushererawayer". Venturer rack or grab rail will also do for this.
Rule 4 .... Watch whats happening n anticipate my actions without over reacting.
Rule 5 .... 2 leg taps means "somethings about to happen get ready for it"
Rule 6 .... Dont get on or off till i tell you too, n do it carefully.
Rule 7 .... Tap me on the shoulder if you need something.
Rule 8 .... Relax n enjoy the ride, i wont play till you feel more confident.
Rule 9 .... Your paying the toll booths so bring some change.
Rule 10 ... NO Piddling on the Seat.

Of course they dont get all rules first ride n rule 10 is normally about rule 5 but its i thought it was funnier at the end.
Enjoy but if you want to keep a person being a pillion long term. Just take your normal speed n halve it n THEN slow down a bit. When they get off n say that was Fun, increase it by about 10% per ride till your doing about 3/4s play pace. They ll let you know when they are past their comfort point. When your good at it they will complain about nodding off to sleep n having a sore bum.
Oh Janelle experienced 200km last weekend very briefly. I said what you think ?, she said was that 200 ? I went yep, she said wasnt too scary but the helmet was trying to Rip my head off. Classic.

cheers Brett

Whenever I have a new pillion, I tell them to tap me inthe middle of the back if they are scared.

Then I speed up.

Nah, seriously, scaring pillion passengers is not the way to get support of non-bike riders. They end up writing stupid news paper articles.

Hehehe you have the same system as me, Jas. Tap tap, lifes about to get interesting.
I have not reved it over 6-7k with Sharon the back. She's not a huge fan and she wouldn't get back on if i gave her a hell ride.
I agree with Neka, smooth is the way to go.
My brother came down from Sydeny and wanted a hell ride, fark he got it (on my ZX7R then) He rides though, which is interesting, because you'd be flat out getting me on the back of anyone. Have to be a lot of trust there.
There's a new thread, Would you be a pillion?

the first time my mate took his girl on the back he started off really slow, then with a snap of the wrist pulled the biggest mono along the freeway and she was holding on for dear life.

what i'm getting at is show them how bad it gets and then they will cling on and wont be moving the other way or sticking their heads up at 170km/h etc etc.

i thought it was dangerous, but he reckons she's a great pillion now.

No, its not, just ask Corrie :P

I haven't attempted pillioning yet either, still getting used to balancing mine myself (specially since I just had the preload raised [WOOHOO])

Anyways, WHERE'S LINDA THE SUPER PILLION??? I reckon she would have plenty of words of good advice for the novice pillion, given the way Rossi rides :P

i hate it wen u feel the helmet smack u in the middle of the back....leanne
the dumb ho use to fall asleep on the back most times..she reckoned it was
relaxing...
the grab rails on the zx6/9 was the best thing abt them, as long as they
hold on...
another point i picked up after reading bretts dribble reminds me...
*dont get em to lean until there confident...if ur a good rider u can
counter them..u dont want them doin the opposite lean thing, so i tell em "u
sit dead str8 upright & ill handle the leaning"...its a bit harder on rider
cos u have to wrestle a bit more, but its not as scary for pillions who r
new...
* also handy tip is "when we go thru a left hander, u look over my right
shoulder, and vice versa", seems wen they try to look under u thru a corner
they bring the bike down a lil more than u want..

shit thats a lot of info  lol
well, took my sis for a bit of cruise last night and it was all fine. certainly different with some one on the back thats for sure. the only thing is im not too sure if my bikes up to it :? i took one fairly tight corner and the ass end seemed to get out of shape, but im guessing cos its only a lil gpx 250??!!
who knows, it was still fun. i ended up taking my sis to her school speech night thing so she could impress her friends 8)
lol
thanks for all the help!
ps i made her read this thread before she got on...

yeh i dont really reckon my zzr 250 is up to it. though if i firmed up the rear suspension it would handle it a lot better. still fun to do now and then.

neka, every time a pillion leans over my right shoulder in a left hand corner, i always tell whoever it is to fkn move LEFT.. bike goes funny unless theyre looking over the proper shoulder, i like being able to lean the bike over a bit more!

i find i go a fair bit faster with someone on the back, the rear suspension feels like its actually working.. still, the pillion's got to have balls if youre goin flat chat cuz thats the only way the bike's gonna handle the way it should when you take it thru a corner at speed.

a bad pillion will screw things up for ya... and squash other things...

tell em what you want before they get on! ian's posted all that info already.

mina.. i await the roundabout report.

I'm with you Dave. The passenger should sit farking still, but look over the inside shoulder. If they wanna start playing silly games like looking around and the scenery, or looking over the wrong shoulder, then they can get off and fucken walk!
