GPX250 turning off

Post by Laguna »

hey guys, got a problem. my gpx250 turns on when in neutral, but as i shift the gear into first gear and clutch is in also... i ease the clutch out slowly and the revs just switch down and everything turns off. IF i pull the clutch back in just before its goign to turn off the revs go back up to its specific poin when i released the clutch. Any idea/s will be most appreciated. Oh and the Side stand is up of course :) so thats not the problem. Please help.

Cheers.

The side stand might be up, but the side stand switch could be stuck. Give it a clean and see if it helps.

Give it some more revs and let go of the brake lever.

I would have thought once the side stand switch kicked in it would shut down all together(stall), you say it dies a little and when you release the clutch lever it picks up again, does not sound like a side stand lock out problem to me, Can you push the bike? does it move? are the disc pads binding?

if u put it into gear and the stand switch is rooted the bike will stall str8 away.. so it sounds like its NOT the switch...however, in saying that, my blade had a short under the seat, which WAS the stand switch...it would be fine for 3 days then all of a sudden it would stall at 80kph...good luck with that !!

how old is the bike?? have u done nething to it recently that may affect it?? is it under warranty??

There is a diode network that works with the clutch lever and side stand switch, one of those may be faulty, if you have a workshop manual have a look you will see them, check them out with a multimeter.

Trust me, I used to have a GPX250 and this exact thing would happen every time too much chain lube built up on the switch and stopped it from coming out of the housing properly. Together with the clutch switch it stops the engine exactly as described.

Try the simple fix first mate...don't stress out about all the other guff until after you've tried it.
