Bayliss loses finger after crash
April 3, 2007

Troy Bayliss has lost most of his right little finger after a high-speed crash in the weekend's world superbike round at Donington in England.

Surgery failed to save the finger, which was trapped between his bike and the tarmac as he slid off. Bayliss reportedly lost the top two bones of the finger, which was crushed beyond repair.

The incident happened five laps into race one after the defending world superbike leader broke away from the pack to lead.

Ducati team spokesman Julian Thomas said Bayliss had been taken to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in an attempt to repair the finger.

Bayliss, 38 last Friday, had dominated the meeting, heading the qualifying sessions and snaring pole position for the first race.

His young British rival James Toseland took out race one on a Honda from Australia's Troy Corser on a Yamaha. Corser also managed a podium place in race two, finishing third behind his teammate, Japan's Noriyuki Haga.

 Ouch. Sometimes its better to kick the bike away (if possible) not try and hang on to it during a prang.............low-speed prangs sometimes its better to hang on...........

Remember watching a WSB race a few years ago now when Troy was chasing Colin Edwards and he had a habit of holding the clutch in when he went down (it was wet) so he could get straight back into it,wonder if this is what he was trying to do?

Not unless his clutch is on the right hand bar
