I don't think so. As far as I can tell, people are being paid to spam forums, so it's real people joining up.

It would, and a lot of the overseas forums I have joined will only allow membership after a confirming e-mail is sent . Not sure on the logisitics of this, I think there is some automated e-mail stuff available to reduce the workload for admins ? Who BTW do a great job here on reducing the amount of crap we have to read ..

We already do that..
You will notice we have very little (if any these days) spam actually posted to the forums..
Neka and Mina's posts excluded of course..
