Wow. I can also drive any car I want (albeit without insurance) but that translates into nothing when it comes to bikes. I fail to see what cars and trucks have to do with motorbikes? More to the point, I can see how a motorbike is completely different. Are you of the opinion that being a long time driver means you are responsible enough and hence shouldn't have restrictions?Daisy wrote:I'm 36* and I can drive the most powerful car I can lay my hands on, I can drive a truck or a bus, but I can't ride a 100hp motorbike?

well things change over time as the government sees things dont work.
also an increase in numbers of vehicles on roads means that rocking up getting your l's doing a u turn getting full licence is no longer the SAFE way to let people ride motorbikes where there is no saftey barrier around them
its even getting hard to get your car licence here. you are now being looked at for how much night driving and driving in adverse conditions.
we could always be like perth and have to be shadowed everywhere we ride but we dont so thank your lucky stars cause i will tell you having to depend on someone else to go for a run to the shops or quick blat around the hills isnt fun.
just think they could also make u fill out a log book and spend so many hours in controlled driver instructed training, but they dont,
they let you go un supervised onto the streets the way they control your ability to reach high speeds and have a bike with higher capacity than u can handle is by enforcing restrictions.
deal with it and stop whinging. its getting beyond a joke now.
i guess i could complain becuase in months i have spent 14 months on my p plates, and should be on unrestricted licence, but im not. why? because i spent 3 months walking due to my own stupidity. see me writing a thread about the rta sucks and what not, no, there is nothing i can do, the lady at the rta helped me as much as she could, but the rules are the rules, so i got 5 more weeks on p plates and a 90km/h speed limit. i just suck it up and ride the period out.

No-one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read it.kellz wrote:deal with it and stop whinging. its getting beyond a joke now.
because you're 22? If I was, I'd be on P's for 2 years.i guess i could complain becuase in months i have spent 14 months on my p plates, and should be on unrestricted licence, but im not. why?
As I said before, that doesn't mean you have to agree with them. Besides, you can't possibly be so stupid as to actually believe that we should just meekly go along with everything the government decides for us, even when they keep changing things virtually overnight.there is nothing i can do, the lady at the rta helped me as much as she could, but the rules are the rules
I grew up in a time when databases and constant video surveillance and instant facial recognition was just science fiction. Science fiction now paints a much more sinister big brother - with the implanted chip and/or barcode so they know your every move. ID cards are the next step down that road. Far fetched? That's what we used to think about a terminal on every desk and being able to talk to anyone in the world through it.
If it was only a matter of weeks I'd leave the bike in the shed. I'm talking a year.so i got 5 more weeks on p plates and a 90km/h speed limit. i just suck it up and ride the period out.
And if you'd care to have another look at the thread title, I asked what's the point of exemptions - when they're not really an exemption.
So, oh wise one, why am I doing this year on P's?getting your l's doing a u turn getting full licence is no longer the SAFE way to let people ride motorbikes
No, but people aren't signing up just to join in the bitching about a third party in my thread.see me writing a thread about the rta sucks and what not

I have been reading most of this and yes totally understand where you are coming from Daisy. Why have exceptions if they wont allow them? Very simple. Mate in the end it's your choice and your choice only. You know the deal with it all. I do have to agree if ya don't like what this thread is about don't read it how hard is that?
I enjoyed riding my GPX250 but hey that's me and not everyone is like me.
I say if they haven't brought out the new rule yet yes fight it and keep me at least posted I like hearing about it

Yeah Nath, they have log books here too.
Lainie, some days I do enjoy riding the gpx. But its not so much fun knowing that I hafta ride it. There isn't anything I can do about the new rules. Yes, they are still offering exemptions. I asked - they said no, only for lams bikes. So unless I sell the gpx in the meantime I will keep riding it til June or whatever when the new rules start and then I won't have to ask.
I am feeling a little better today. Retail therapy.
I bought myself a winter project. Pics soon.
