I suspect there's about to be a crackdown Nick. The woman at transport said they've "been liasing with the police" so I reckon they will be checking everything, at least until lams is well implemented.

I.K. If I decide to rear end any luxury cars I'll make sure I do it with a truck. At least I've got a licence for that.

And I don't have insurance. Never have had. 6 vehicles at first year insurance rates?

Be cheaper to wear the loss.

Tasmania is mental for bikes no matter what size. I was down there last month and was actualy amazed when I came across a straight piece of road longer than 3 km's. Two fiddys are fun, concentrate on your riding and get the absolute most out of it and yourself. Bigger bikes just mean greater amounts of concentration and ability to reach the limits, two fiddys let you get away with murder and if you let them give you great big smiles.
Enjoy it for what it is. We all rode em. I bought a brand new one 7 years ago and was passed by cyclists down beach rd when I was running it in, something to look back at and laugh about now, but also used it up in the hills to not only keep up with but pass larger capacity bikes.
And I was a born again too after a long period of abstinence I just put it in my mind to learn as much as could from riding a smaller machine.
Wanna know what is good fun? try a 125 scooter...... absolute pisser for good times around the city. Too much hype around large sportsbikes, they are ball tearingly good fun for horsepower, but just as much( if not more ) fun and adventure can be had on small machines also

Build a bridge and get over it. ( thats not a Tassie joke by the way )

That could have happened on a scooter. I'm still not sure that it wasn't running out of fuel, as it was right on the reserve switchover point, but in the absence of hard facts I'm putting it down to pilot error. I'd been out too long and wasn't concentrating enough. If the same had happened on the zzr the damage bill would have been bigger and it would still be my own fault. Doesn't alter the fact that it is still the only time in 30 years I have ever put one down, despite riding bigger and more powerful.

I don't want an Aprilia, I want a Kawasaki. I like the zzr, just like pink and high heels. Personal taste. I think a lot of you are missing the point. It is not the power of the zzr that I'm after. So what if it's high powered? Doesn't mean I have to use it all. I just like the bike. Not as much as I like the 636, but the bank manager declined an invitation to that party.

personally saki (ive never met u) but i think ur a knob for doing what u do, and i for one would NEVER ride with u until such a time as ur licenced/insured, but thats just me coming form a bad experience being taken out by a fuckwit years ago...mind u he got clear and did a runner neway (i was insured luckily and didnt have to pay the $6k repair bill to my bike)

Daisy- it could be worse... u could be in a state where no Lams applies (or can be utilised) ... before Lams in nsw it was 250cc only and NO 2 strokes..even the cbr250rr was learner ILLEGAL , and ne1 who tells u different hasnt tried to insure one whilst on there L/P's...

I would certainly argue that one in court. I have a licence - I would just be not complying with conditions. If someone loses a licence for drink driving or whatever and they get a restricted licence to travel to work and back - do they get charged with being unlicenced when the cops catch them driving out of their hours or area? Don't think so, they charge them with breaching the conditions.

they dont do a "work" licence for DUI...well not here in SA..i told the judge id lose my job and he said "shoulda thought of that before u did it"... i did it 2 yrs before i had a job (it took em that long to take me to court)...

if i drive a truck int oa car does that mean i have a licence, but just not the right class?? ..i only have a car licence these days (and bike)..no truck...

seriously, shifty is right..riding a bike ur not licenced for is the same as riding unlicenced....

You're just unfortunate that it's not kicked in sufficiently soon to be convenient to you, but the wheels *are* turning towards making getting a half decent 251cc+ bike possible for your L's and P's in your state.

And r.e. there not being a nice bike on the list that appeals to you, live with it, there's a criteria that the govt set based on a compromise between performance and safely. Unfortunately for you and anyone else who is on their restrictions, that just limits what you can ride. I got an obscure bike while on my P's cause it was the best bike i could afford that was LAMS ok, but i did it none the less. At least you've got the monster 620i & the hyosung 650 as an option. Personally i'd even have thought about getting one as my roadbike (unrestricted of course

) if it wasn't for that little thing called money, and my distinct lack therof.

The fact that they're bringing in lams is a good thing if you're 17. I'm 36* and I can drive the most powerful car I can lay my hands on, I can drive a truck or a bus, but I can't ride a 100hp motorbike? Before this part time lams I could have - that's why I've got the shits about it.

I understand that the old system didn't work for everybody, but neither does the new one. I also understand that they had to draw a line somewhere - but they didn't have to draw it right in front of me.

yeah, but i guess you came in smack bang at the perfect time. 12 months earlier or later into the game, and you coulda bounced up in a valid way to a bigger bike. You've got to contend with these hybrid rules that doesn't really cater to anybody.
