welding is a piece of piss.
go buy urself a arc welder from bunnings for $100 a few metal pipes and give it a go. Its not hard, u just gotta have a steady hand.
there's a step by step guide on the net of how to weld in a few hours.
Tried the side gate, 2mm rod but the amps set for 3.5-4mm. Bang.... you should see the size of the hole i blew in the bloody thing. Got to say the gate is solid (don't look flash, but it's solid). More practice couldn't hurt.

Im curious, was thinking of doin this myself..
my sentiments exactly.... well not me.... but a mate of mine with a welder......a break down of all items purchased and price would be great if you can be bothered
Its nearly finished , I need to take some more pics,
eveything except either some type of plate or open grid between the three U channels.
And then a final paint

Steel list
and I hope I didnt leave anything out and you'd need to check with your local steel place on prices. Also wall thichness of all the tubeing is 2-2.5mm depending on what you want to pay.
Also you'll need 25x25 tubeing to mount the wheel arches and maybe some 3mm plate to finish them off as I did
Drawbar
100x50x2.5mtrs long 2off When welding to the frame they start from the spring hangers , thats why they're 2.5mtr long for extra strenght
Base
50x50x2mtrs long 1 off front bar
50x50x1950 mm 2off sides
25x50x1500 5off ribs evenly spaced and the last one on the end then gets the lights U channel welded to it
U channel 45x165x 1.5 approx these are bent up 2400 standard length Approx $30 each
2100 long 2 off
2400 long 1 off
2000 long 1 off this is the rear for lights
Front wheel rise of 300 mm 60deg approx included in lengths.
Wheel arches Approx $50 a pair
Jocky wheel " $50
Wire 5 core $2 mtre
5 pin plug $9
Jerry can holders $ 25 each
Paint $15-20 per litre hammer finish
Axle
hubs and bearings
springs / plates/ hangers bolts / U bolts.[can buy in kit form]
2 rear lights
2 rear red reflectors
2 white front reflectors
front 50mm hitch
Hitch plate[ welded to drawbar then hitch bolted to it ]
I used 50x75x5mm gal weldmesh to go between U channels
To set axel for this trailer distance to centre of front spring eye bolt is 775mm from front of frame.
This gives you 10% ball weight which is the min to give you stable trailer when towing

Marz - that looks really good mate, I bet you are proud of it, and you should be.
Making things is just the bitchinest thing in the world - any numnutz with a fat wallet can buy stuff, but actually going the hard yards and knocking it up yourself is the best.
