At least it's black...

...there have been enough road tests with dyno charts in mags of the '07 R1 for it to be clear that Yamaha's claims about improved midrange for this year are wishful thinking. The new bike is just as gutless until the top third of the rev range as the previous two incarnations have been, and what's the point of a litre sportsbike if it needs to be kept spinning like a 600.

It looks a million bucks, and I'll easily believe the chassis tune has been improved from the, frankly, spectacular setup of the previous model, but until they make the R1 engine intimidating like it used to be, I'm not interested in the slightest. If Suzuki and Kawasaki can make their litre bikes spin past 13,000rpm without sacrificing bottom end, so should Yamaha be able to.

yeah its not a bad bike, definately not a kwaka though but atleast its not a honda!!!

do you plan on racing it? cos all the major bikes come equiped with some good standard fitment(re. suspension) for road use to say one lacks feel to a noticable degree is a big call. if you are push the limits where by it is that noticable wouldnt you consider change the suspension internals any way??

nice bike anyway, have fun.........prick!!!LOL

well, it does feel quicker than my zx10r. The power delivery is more usable, ie, I can gas on earlier without the rear wanting to slip out. or the front wanting to jump up... I'll know for sure once I get on the track with this one but the pwoer delivery is def more linear than the 10r.

The new 10r was nice, but the front end just felt, well, weird!! Like, it wasnt confidence inspiring. Dont know how better to explain it other than that. It just didnt let me know what was happening, even after I tried to stiffen it up and the such...

The R1 is a flat at the bottom, but the power delivery is very user friendly and is still a little nuts at the top. Guess this is a result of the higher compression. I'd hate to feel the bottom end with aftermarket cans though... The bike is easier to lean as well, and doesnt feel as BIG as the new 10r. I guess for my height and riding style, this bike best suit me... Let me get the first service out of the way, then we'll know at EC what numbers I can generate with it...

haha... fair call... Wasnt my intention, but yeah, I can see how it would appear that way. Still got my plates, DZX-10 in storage for when I'll get on a 10R again... Hopefully the next model suits my fancy's better...

Still sad that my 10r got stolen...

Kawasakis seem to make a smidgen more power than other comparable bikes but they seem to have worse suspension.
What's so bad about the others?
I would agree with the suspension comment up till about the year 2000. From then on Kawasaki has lifted their game in a mighty big way. My 2000 model ZX9R with 73,000 klms on it, still has fantastic suspension. As did all the other late model Kawasaki Sports bikes I have ridden in recent years. My 636 was damn near perfect right out of the box. Now this is not to say that Yamaha's suspension is any worse, just that the big K has raised their quality.

As for your original question.. "what's so good about Kawasaki's?" Are you serious? Others have pointed this out, but maybe I had better repeat it so it sinks in a bit.........this is a Kawasaki forum!!!   If I want to criticise Kawasakis, I'll slip into the Honda forum!

Many in here have owned all sorts of different brands, and few I would think would be so blind as to not consider other models when purchase time comes around. Sometimes a different brand will have attributes that appeal more to us than Kawasaki. Then we will have to choose between blind faith and usage value.

I have two kawasaki's in the shed, and will most likely add to that over the coming years. Most likely I will buy more Kawasaki's too. Not because they are neccessarily the best bike. Not because they are the right price (although this sometimes is a deciding factor), but maybe because I, like many others, know my way around Kawasakis and find them easy to work on and live with day to day.

Being the fastest/best handling/lightest weight/most rideable etc is not really a deciding factor for me. I pretty much on most modern things ride about the same pace regardless of machine (ie to say equivelent class bikes, not comparing a ZZR250 to an R1 ok  ), so having an edge in one area or another is not really too much of a concern.

But I like kawasakis. I like the aggressive raucous bent that they seem always to add to there sports range. I like the fact that the 9 goes ballistic at 9000rpm in 4th with ram air stuffing it's guts full of HP producing air and fuel! Where as a Honda just sorta continues doing it's thing.

As far as R1's go, they are horn to ride. And they have a ripping top end ALA Kawasaki! So I enjoy them. But they still don't feel as aggressive to ride as a 10! So I'd still buy the ten all day long. Or the 12, or the 14...............................

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

Well put... Bikes are something unlike cars, in that your height, weight and attitude cant always keep you brand loyal... I'm still a kwakka fan, but ride a Yamaha... You cant miss me on the road, I'm the guy riding the black R1 with Green helment and leathers!!

But have to disagree with the suspension comment. I reckon my 04 10 was and can be setup better than the new 10 (for ME!!!!)
