Old Races on Tele - *warning Spoiler*
If you've got access to ABC2, at the moment they're running old races on a regular basis. Tuesday night at 11.00pm its the first part of the 1978 6 hour and the second part is on later in the week. Thursday night about the same time is the 1985 Swann series.
Looks like some bleary eyes coming up

You'll be right mate, send me a pm for details....Sulli wrote:Can some one please do a tape /cd of this series I am willing to pay cost

I went to the Swann Series at Oran Park in 1985 or 86, can't remember exactly, it was when Kevin Magee rode for the Yamaha Dealer team, and the International contingent consisted of Rob McElnea. Got some great photos and watched Mike Dowson blow everyone into the weeds........
I hope they got this series on the teev !!!

So'd anyone watch the 78 6 hour last night? Hate to spoil it but Roger Heyes/Jim Budd won on the XS1100
Classic stuff with the superbikes of the day ie CBX1000, XS1100, the extra light
Suzuki GS1000 of Alan Hales (who unfortunately binned it in the lead about half way. The Avon Roadrunners, pretty well stock bikes, evn with horns still attached, blokes coming into pitt lane dodging the potholes while flipping up the fuel lid.
Also notable was the winner of the 750 class, a younger Mr Phillis.
Great stuff. Now the 85 Swann series on Thursday night.

Stay on the gas...maybe you'll save it, maybe you won't, but at least it will end the suspense....

what a fantastic show that was !! Looked like they did the whole '78 6 Hour last night, some of the footage was just *classic* 70's - flares, bad hair, cigarette advertising (remember that ?)
Then the 1978 International Rally, held in Canberra in 1978. This was a real eye-opener, with a lot of local cars/names etc I hadn't thought of for years..........plenty of good rally drivers from down this way...
Some of the forest roads used and filmed back then are still regularly ridden these days by some idiot on a 4 cylinder 750 chookie !!

I can remember watching that on tele didnt have a video at that time so nooo replays but what a concept take the bike off the showroom floor and go to the track and race
How do people reckon the bikes would go today doing that
Out of the crate at the track first service and race sort the bikes out for sure and provide good feed back for buyers
Rather than a specially prepared bike for journalists and the possibility of some greasing of the palms for a favourable review

Nostradamus probably got it right
Hope everyone watched tonights show, after the rally was the 81 easter bike races at Bathurst.
Absolutly awesome, anyone who got to any of these races is very lucky.
We are all mad, bad and dangerous to know!!!!.
