there's nothing either of those org's can do, but at least with netrider the word will get around.
Taxing bikes of the road has been going on now for 24 months or so, it may be new news to you lot but really its old stuff.
here's some stat's you should take notice of bike sales is direct proportion to almost all things we do and have input in. Notice Victoria's slump and thats dew to what? speed, police vid bikes, highest rego in Aust or what?
I'm told the stats for 2004 although not released for another few months also show a fall in Victoria again!
Sorry about the was its typed, cant be bothered turning it into a jpeg and forums dont support spread sheets :)

Sales by State, 2002 vs 2003
State Jan to December Sales 2002 Jan to December Sales 2003

In the United States, the average total cost (including medical costs, lost earnings, lost quality of life) of motorcycle accidents is about 11 times that for motor vehicles as a whole. A similar ratio is likely in Australia.

No a similar ratio is NOT likely in Australia, you sub-normal heap of steaming feaces. Because if your skull was able to crack open wide enough to soak up a fact or two, and if your learning skills hadn't been so dulled by your habit of crapping on a sheet of paper and calling it an article, you would know the following:

- the differences between the American and Australian hospital + health systems
- the differences between the American and Australian welfare systems
- the differences between the American and Australian legal systems
- the differences between the American and Australian laws regardisng helmet use

All of which have a DIRECT bearing on things like medical costs, lost earnings and lost quality of life. Australian conditions just CANNOT reliably be extrapolated from American data for this topic, and any half-competent semi-sentient blob of life would realise this.

You would also realise the benefits of research before shooting your mouth off, to avoid getting your arse handed to you by a bunch of angry bikers.

Jesus, if I handed that fetid pile of festering pus-ridden puke into one of my lecturers for marking, they would reward me with scathing commentary and embarrassing amounts of red pen. And deservedly so.

And your editor should be spanked, too.

I've got to agree with the sentiment shown by everyone above. However one thing that is very important is being missed by a few of us as has already been stated. keep a level head, state your argument, try to back it up with facts. Spread the word of this "vitriol" (good word, i like it, thanks! ;-) ) Try to get a retraction of the article from the editor or perhaps author based on the unprofessional manner that this abuse of position has been put up for the world to see.

Oh and the author sounds like they've gotten a side mirror smacked off by someone for cutting them off and so are trying to extract a little vengance.

I might try forwarding this article to a couple of radio announcers who ride bikes, that'll get the wind up 'em!!

http://www.mcnews.com.au/NewsArchives/2004/dec_finreview.htm
oh yeah, i had a look about the afr, i couldnt find a link to the original article, anyone got one?

:edit: seems mcnews have already got the article on their pages and a bunch of replied in their forum http://www.mcnews.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5110

Succint and obviously heart felt Nath... LOL

But as speaking as a person who lives with a real clown... they will see that as abusive and automatically dismiss it as a stereotypical "bad assed" biker's response.

It would be better if we had a single well written response that we all on mass (please correct phrasioligy) send in.

I reckon this is a great idea!!!! I'm gonna sell my bike and buy a bumper car, wrapped in cotton wool, and then get the government to wrap every road side object in bubble wrap!

I will encourage every one I know to purchase one of these vehicles as well.

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

If the government were serious about "saving lives", they would be putting the money towards the mental health system, and doing a shit load more to prevent suicide. More people commit suicide each year, than have accidents, and it's something that is entirely preventitive.

Unfortunatley the government havent found a way to use speed cameras with stationary cars in garages, and they haven't yet worked out that they could impose a hanging tax on rope sold in hardware stores.

(A little insensitive? Maybe, but it's dumb arsed articles like this that get me worked up!)

I'd be interested to see how good a driver this clown is....
