point to point cameras on Hume Fwy
I see the Gov't is switching on the new greed cameras on the Hume shortly. Are these both speed and point to point or just point to point.
I forsee a lot of drivers driving a lot less than the 110km limit as they struggle to calculate the impact of dong 112km to overtake a B double on their 110km average.
Also a lot will be taking a leak and counting down the mins close to the cameras or the eateries will do a roaring trade as drivers wash off their excess average speed.

Doesn't matter to them at the end of the day... They will just say, well the if it wasn't you fill in the back of the fine to nominate the driver..
I think it's crap... I can see why they would do it for Trucks, but for cars it is going over the top.

I still have trouble believing these cameras work as well as intended, it means that "EVERY" vehicle that passes a camera has to have a pic and time taken, that's a shitload of processing power needed, and all needs to be sent to some server somewhere I guess to be calculated...

Perhaps in the days of 386s, but now you can get the required computational power really easily. Especially when there's lots of money to be mademick_dundee wrote:I still have trouble believing these cameras work as well as intended, it means that "EVERY" vehicle that passes a camera has to have a pic and time taken, that's a shitload of processing power needed, and all needs to be sent to some server somewhere I guess to be calculated...

Do I take it then that these aren't operating yet? Because when I was howling back from the supers on Monday I slowed for each camera but was averaging way over 110. I then started thinking, shit I hope these aren't point to point.
Do you also get a fine for each point to point?

There are already a set on the hume just before you get to Wallan heading north and then a set just after wallan heading south i think.
There are ones facing at you and then ones pointing the other way.
I am sure they must be like that for a reason. Also i believe the ones on the ring rd work in the same way already i have been led to believe. Good thing is on the 14 it goes so quick it just confuses the camera thinking he couldnt have got here that quick..
Like i say they will never wake up and realise, the more people that get there licence, the more cars on the rd, the more accidents. Its fairly plain and simple in my book..

Glen, from Phillip Island to the border it is strewn with australia's funniest vehicle speeding videos devices!!!Glen wrote:Do I take it then that these aren't operating yet? These I think are speed cameras only. the ones on the city link I am led to believe are also speed only and mounted on the gantries. On the Cragieburn Bypass, they are speed and point to point.
On the Hume near Wallan they are Point to Point. However, you can only be done for one on the point to points. That is provided you didn't slow your average to under the limit in between sections!
I can just imagine Glen singing the song now...."oh mr. postman............"

Do you also get a fine for each point to point? On the fwy into Melbourne from the Island, the gantries have cameras as well as about 500m before the domain tunnel and throughout the tunnel length.

Into Melbourne was no worries, the traffic was just about stopped all the way.

in sydney theres hundreds of camera's mounted up on posts, about 15m above the road.
these are RTA vtraffic monitoring thingies.
but in Vic "the speed camera state" these may be different
i know the truck "point to point" cameras are on bridges and capture the front of the truck (in nsw)
i always wave at them, cant get my bike plate from the front.

Little overboard in your list of cameras mate. There's no cameras in any of the citylink gantries, anywhere. The original speed camera on the overhead signs next to the nylex clock got decommisioned years ago. I don't believe there ever will be speed cameras on the gantries because that would mean Citylink allowing Tenix access to their structures, not likely in this day and age. That being said though there are of course 2 cameras in the Domain, and 3 in the Burnley tunnels.
Ones on the Ring Rd are still not turned on yet, should have been first week of the year but latest word was they are still "A few weeks away". These are all in the old places from before the 180B incident, except a new set covering the exit ramp onto Ballarat Rd.
There are no point to point cameras operating in Vic yet.
