Queensland Transport Statistics

Post by bonester »

From QT website: (2005 stats)
over 1300 people PER DAY were caught speeding (more than 474500 over the course of the year.)
330 people died over the course of a year.
Every K over is a killer- should be nearly half a million dead Queenslanders in 2005.
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Like I said in a previous thread, so many more people die from other causes yet speeding is as always the easy target.

I can't understand anyone who actually thinks it is a safety thing with them. Even a quick look at the facts will show up the bullshit, yet somehow we as a nation keep letting them fuck us hard.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why the governments of the country continue down the "speed kills" line.

Speed increases the chance of serious injury or death in the event of an accident and in some cases it even causes the accident. But then, so does inattention, fatigue etc.

I actually think they should start a new advertising campaign. Something along this line:

"Yes, we are revenue raising. But it's voluntary. If you don't want to contribute towards the revenue, don't speed. Get the fuck over it."

OK here's my 2 cents

IF they are "safety" camera's they are set up in what the powers that be have determined as an "unsafe" section of the road.
As a concientious, professional driver, I believe I have the right to have advance warning of this so deemed "unsafe" area. So WTF is my radar detector illegal ? It does not block nor interfere with the signals being emitted by radar, just give a warning that one is in use in the immediate area thereby alerting me to be on my guard.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

Thing is, there is a difference between the odd lunatic going way to fast, and most reasonable and otherwise law-abiding citizens who are merely travelling to where they need to go at a speed that is in most cases quite appropriate for the conditions.

In most other countries in the world, this second group of people (which infact is the majority) is allowed to do this, whether it happens to be over the signed limit or not. So you have a situation where massive police resources are NOT tied up pulling over anything that creeps over the limit, but instead focusses on only those that are being UNSAFE.

Ideally, and in reality I am sure this actually happens sometimes in some of these countries, this allows a much larger percentage of the police force to busy itself fighting crime.

Imagine that - The traffic police that are out there are targeting unsafe drivers and riders, not merely giving anyone a little over the limit a reason to dislike them, and because there are more police left over to fight actual crime, it goes down too!

Ah, but not here in Aus! None of that wishful thinkng for us.....

There just isn't as much money in fighting crime as there is in handing out tickets to motorists.

Its gone that way in NZ, if you've been the victim of a robbery or an attack it'll take hours for the police to follow it up, but speed and they'll be all over you like a rash!
