depends on type of fine.

sometimes can be a stat dec, but totally depends what your trying to contest.

The ones here have a thing to fill out on the back, check if yours does as well and should tell you the steps to take. Good luck

Who did you get done ? if it was a fixed speed cam. you can request the photo (last i heard they were $10). If it's not you send the fine back to them and advise them in a stat dec.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Re: Notice of Intended Prosecution number

I have received a notice of intended prosecution/request to identify the rider of a vehicle in relation to an allegation of an offence on <DATE>

I am aware that I have a duty to take reasonable steps to provide the information required in the notice. I take this duty seriously and I am therefore anxious that any information provided is accurate. I am also anxious to deal with this matter promptly. I am not the only person who has access to and authority to drive this vehicle and I am unable to confirm who was driving it on the day. I would therefore be obliged if you would provide the following to assist me to comply with your notice :

(a) a copy of any photographs and/or video taken of the vehicle concerned, whether or not this is able to show the rider;
(b) confirmation of the exact location of the alleged offence;
(c) where evidence was obtained by recording device, confirmation of the type of device used (including make and model), a copy of the up-to-date certificate of calibration, confirmation of the date of calibration and details of the method used; and
(d) where the recording device was mobile, details of the operator, their qualifications and the operator training received by them.

I trust that until such time as the photograph or other evidence is provided (allowing two days for postage under the usual rules of service) the 28-day period will not start to run.

Yours faithfully

A lawyer will cost you heaps and is possibly unnecessary.

A court ruling recently stated that if you contest a speeding fine and get them to check your speedo and can prove that your speedo is out, then they will have to withdraw the fine. That is IF that is the reason you received an unfair ticket. If you were truely speeding, then there's nothing you can do.

I dunno where you would start though, I suggest maybe call the police department, or a free legal service (look in the phone book) for some free legal advice over the phone.

I am about to write a letter to contest a parking ticket.

What a great post! I know when I put a long letter in response to my points being taken off for L plate falling off (for real!), they still haven't replied, and that was 4 months ago.

Anyway, your quote sounds like a great first step for any speeding appeal.

i have some advise as i have been throught this b4
first of the senario old man caught speeding he was doing 180ish in a 100 zone and racing
first there was some issues with what speed the coper thought he was doin
so we saw a lawer
he was good and should have been for $3500
he worked out with the help of sientests etc that we couldnt have been doing that quick as by the time the police caught us he would have been doing 300k/h to catch us from where he said the reading was taken and where we were pulled over.
secondly the police tape was scrubbed with 1.20 minutes missing so this gave enough doubt in the judges eyes to take the speed that my old man had said he was doing 150km/h
walked away with $600 fine and 6 points
so in all he kept his licence which was what he wanted.
the police initially didnt write a ticket however only a court appearance date.
i think if he didnt have some1 looking after his case his licence would have been gone for at least a year

Well last week we had Pizza and before that KFC and before that we just had a barbeque. Played touch football and picked up some cans off the side of the freeway. :lol:
