roadside assistance query
roadside assistance query
Hey everyone,
want to know what position you guys/gals are in for road assistance.
I am insured with Western QBE which I believe doesnt offer roadside assistance?
Tonight a friend and I went out from a ride and thought to stop off at maccas for a quick coffee. When we got ready to leave from maccas carpark my mates bike no longer started. Anyways what startled me was that we could have been 100's and 100's of km's away from home on tour or heading to the superbikes and this could happen. He was with NRMA and called them, the guy in the nrma truck turned up and jump started the bike as the battery was stuffed.
What do you do if caught out in the middle of nowhere and you cant fix your own bike?
Are there temporary 3rd party roadside assistance plans for riders, as in if i am coming to superbikes and i want roadside cover for 3 days?
what do you guys/gals do?
Serious answers only please.
If an epsode like tonight hasnt happend to you before it can be quite alarming especially if your a long way from home.
I think it pays to document all the contact numbers and details for bike shops in the area you are tarvelling as to call on them if the shit hits the fan. Though we were only 10 mins from home it was still uncomfortable.......like you cant tow a bike, who the hell would have a trailer at that time of the night just sitting around.

With RACV total care, I can nominate a vehicle and a driver. Simply I nominate my car as vehicle, and myself as driver. This means:
- anyone driving my car will be covered
- anything I drive/ride will be covered
Good value I think.

I've got the same- Total Care. Mainly for the unlimited towing (my old old bike use to break down often for one thing or another) Also came in handy when i was with a friend and his car broke down- I just told them I was drivingjavaman wrote:With RACV total care, I can nominate a vehicle and a driver. My last tow I had the bike moved from my place in Kensington to Dandenong (45ks appox) and that tow paid for the cost of my menbership
Cost: $166p.a

I enquired with RACV about this once as I know a bloke that had both bike and car covered, they insisted there was no such product and if I want the bike covered then I need to take out another membership, told them to take a hike in a less polite manner, currently on the car has roadside assistance, never needed it for the bike really.. yet.

Great! Now it's got me thinking about looking into it.
My bike has only broken down once, ran out of fuel then decided it wouldn't start. Anyway we rang the bike towing Co's 2 of them. 1 didn't answer and the other 1 told me i was out of luck as he was going to the Pub!
After kicking the amco railing and throwing a few abusive words around pushed it the 2.5km to the servo. filled it and started no problem (bastard)! Had been in the middle of woop-woop i would have been screwed.

RACQ for me - for car and bike.
I've had to call for assistance twice:
I've had to call for assistance twice:
- Once on the ZZR when it decided that it really only wanted to run on one cylinder whilst riding down the M1. Guy that came was a rider and knew what the problem was - 1 coil down. Found the problem was simply that the wire was broken - 5 minutes later was back on the road.
Once on the Zx7r - minor problem of running out of fuel - 5 year old had turned fuel tap to reserve without my knowledge- Bike started to stutter, went to change to reserve and found that I was already there. Bugger. RACQ brought out 20 litres which was more than enough. Had to pay for the fuel but you expect that.
