Thanks guys. Im thinking of taking a job that's about 70 minutes each way and about 130k round trip. It's interesting to see how long you guys travel and by what mode of transport.

28.5km each way along the M5, General holmes drive, Harbour tunnel and via lane cove. Each of them is often "a total f*ing carpark". and riding helps a lot as when there's been a total standstill i just go down the breakdown lane at 20-40km/h (its still faster than the 1-5km/h the cars are doing).

on a good day
bike: 20 minutes
car: 25 minutes

bad day
car: 1-1.5hours
bike: 1 hour.

mind you the fact i have transit/bus lanes for 1/2 of my journey home (1/4 the way to work) makes light work of a lot of the traffic, especially when stuffed after nightshifts.

Where's the job, i'm-kwaka's? I think it makes a difference if it's freeway riding / bumper-to-bumper traffic, etc.

I rode my bike from Gosford to Northern Beaches daily (90ish km's each way). Now I'm living in Hornsby, so the commute is under 30kms each way.

Depends, sometimes, I'll ride and other times drive. Sometimes I even drive and trailer the bike. If I have time though, I will ride. Commute time for me can be as little as 8 hours and 864klm's or three days and 2000klms depending on if I use the fwy or hit the snowies!

Drive Somedays, Ride Somedays all depends on how I feel when I wake up...

Travel to work can take anywhere from 30mins to an hour all depends on if the Gateway is shit house or not....

Dude, Windsor to tempe is a *HUGE* trip to do daily. your very game, esp considering how cluttered the m4, king georges and the m5 get.... basically 3/4 of your entire journey.

The way your going via paramatta road, im not sure if that'd be much better, if it goes remotely near newtown then game over, it'd just plain SUCK.

For the distance efficiency id go the bike, but for comfort i'd go a car with aircon & an auto gearbox.

hmmm i say dont do it... unless you have to.

i live in richmond, and Rode my bike, drove car, to Hornsby each day, i started at 6.30 so it only 45 mins to work, but hour or more home.

now i work at windsor :D

my run was pretty good, (back ways) but theres no back way to TEMPE!!!

bike would be better for "negotiating" traffic. but still very mind drianing...
