Advice please??

Post by Wattie »

i bought a new helmet, coz i found some creepy crawlies living in my old one...

purchesed the helmet, and a tinted visor to suit.

i wear the helmet for the 1st time and find the visor is kinda smokey.

like it was fogged up, pulled it off and cleaned it (with a clean rag)
and still no go.

returned to the shop, and told them, and they have taked the visor off my hands to pass on to the rep.

they stood by me in saying i hadnt done anything wrong.

i went to shop today to check on progress, and rep hasnt been in to pick it up yet.

im leaving for PI on tuesday evening. so im thinking it wont be fixed by then.

they offered to sell me a new visor (which i suspect will be the same) because the foggyness looks to me like its "built in"

cut to the point now.

am i out of line if i ask for a refund on the helmet??
if they cant supply a decent visor to me, i belive the helmet it of no real use to me.

i never ride with a clear visor, always tinted, and feel quite comfy in doing so.

and if i was to return said helmet, should i wear my old bugg eaten one to PI? or so i stick the clear visor on and deal with it, and possibly not get a refund on it?

any advice??

Go back with your helmet, get them to fit a new visor and go for a walk around outside in good sunlight. If its the same, return the helmet as the visor doesnt meet standards in regards to transparency. See if they'll fix you up with a different helmet, maybe a slightly dearer one as compensation.

Get a refund and a different lid.

I just so happen to know where there are some shoei kagayamas for about $590........ :P

Seriously, if you can't see out of it, its not safe. If its "built in" to the visor, could be a faulty run from the maker. I wouldn't keep it.

I doubt that you would be entitled to a replacement lid because an 'aftermarket' visor is unsuitable bit like asking for a total refund on a bike becauset he aftermarket exhaust does not give the sound you want.

But, a shop may be willing to refund in the name of 'good will'.

The first thing I would do is try different visors from teh same shop and if they are still an issue, try a second shop (you should be entitled to a refund on the visor cost). If the problem is still there than it is safe to say either a bad batch or as a minimum the visor does not meet your expectations and time to look elsewhere, but that does not mean getting rid of the lid if you like it.

However, as someone who only ever rides in clear visors why not go the sunglass route as others have suggested or will they not fit in the helmet (mine will not fit in my KBC)?

its not an aftermarket visor, its a KBC one like the KBC helmet.

it is designed for it.

doubt glasses will fit, its pretty snug in there...

i'd say it might be the visor, a mate of mine has a kbc and he has had no problem with his.

you may want to try a different sort/colour of tint - my make a difference
