Re: Blue14 first ride report.
I've read that in a couple of reviews. Apparently Mr. Kawasaki wanted it to be easy to putt around on low down. I'm sure with a TRE and PC3 it could be sorted.Blue14 wrote:First thing i noticed was it doesnt feel as responsive down low, but i guess its still tight and will get better.![]()

Good stuff Blue, I took one for a good test ride about 2 or 3 weeks agao and I mentioned to the sales guy about the lack of pretty much any go below 6k. He told me they have been restricted below 5k to make them "manageable" and stop pilots flipping them at every set of lights. Apparently its a simple jumper mod inside the ECU to correct this bit of Kawa engineering nannaering.
The handling is what shocked the hell out of me.....I expected big slow and hard work....it was as easy to ride in the twisties as my 6, it just lacked the ground clearance is the only complaint I could make.
I would hate to think what this thing is capable of as a top speed to cause I reckon I would well and truly chicken out before teh bike ran out, on my ride I decided to back off when i was going fast enough to travel in time.............

Hmmm. probably noticable up to 4k more. Will have a play after its loosened up some more. Already on the case for a set of pipes and a decent air filter.. Two Brothers cans are going to be my choice..Plasma Blue 636 wrote:Good stuff Blue, I took one for a good test ride about 2 or 3 weeks agao and I mentioned to the sales guy about the lack of pretty much any go below 6k. Re: Blue14 first ride report.
Check out the guys on ZX14.net. They have a step by step guide on how to remove the secondary butterflies in the throttle bodies so that you regain the low end oomph..Blue14 wrote:Well i finally got to get the weapon out for a decent ride today.First thing i noticed was it doesnt feel as responsive down low, but i guess its still tight and will get better.
Cheers,

P.S. It's an American site and you'll have to register, but they seem pretty knowledgable. If you remove the butterfies, you'll probably void your warranty too, but that's your choice.

I will check it out and see what the go is. Will not do anything to void my warranty though. I am the one who has bad luck when it comes to shit like that..plane wrote:Check out the guys on ZX14.net. I am sure some clever dick will think up a way to mod them without destroying any of the bits! Possibly so the operate in the open position all the time perhaps. Just guessing as I havn't eyeballed one yet. Speaking of which, when you gunna bring it over so I can ride it and we can pull it apart in the shed to have a gander at it Paul???????????

i know witht he secondy butterflies on the Z, there is like a combination of turning key on, on, and plugging and unplugging the butterfly plugs and so on that makes them stay open and the FI light off.
but some have mentioned more fuel consumption and no noticable power gain. unless it PC3'd for it.
but, personally, a 14 is farkin fast enough already is it not??
i wonder if one would scare me?
the Z still brings a smile to my face, and its slow
