Hey Neka - one thing that I meant to ask right at the beginning of this thread.........where this bin is sitting next to the road, near an intersection............it doesn't exactly look like suburbia ??

Are there any houses nearby ? or other bins out on the street ??

If you were riding along a street with no houses, or only 1 or 2 in a semi-rural environment, I would be as suspicious as buggery about old 'Lone Bin' standing at the roadside....

Man spot on. Off season is a killer. Ah well it all starts up again soon, and then I will have my life back!

Oh and SnypR, I see that it is missing a specific firearm deallie. I guess the intentional ones go under the homocide banner, could the unintentional deaths actually be less than 100? I know that Americans seem to be quite good at accidentally killing themselves and each other with their guns, I wonder how prevelant it is here? Then again maybe these just go in the accidental deaths column.

How idealistic. Unfortunately it's bullshit. You vote for a bunch of shitheads based on some bullshit core promises which often get broken anyway, and/or the parties general ideology. After that you have no say. Besides, majority rule is far from ideal in the first place. It can be completely unjust to minorities even when the majority doesn't even stand to benefit much.
People do not vote for laws, or have I been left out? Yeah, I'm sure the majority of Australians think it should be illegal to copy a CD onto a music player. That must be why we have that law

dude its out in the middle of nowhere..use to be a 100 zone, but now 80...lets *assume* u can go thru there at abt 150 without any trouble at all....
the houses are scattered, so there is a house there, and if u didnt kno wot day there bin day was, well u wouldnt think twice.... then again how many of us have been guilty of forgetting to take the bin in for a few days??

its not a balck spot, cos u can see quite clearly in that area, in fact the few bends in that area are posted at 65-75km/h i reckon...

in this case it sure isnt a safety issue...

So, let's assume bikes are going through there at 150. 150 in an 80 zone. Which happens to be in the middle of no-where, but at the same time it's passed a house.

And that's not a safety issue? I must have missed something.

Maybe the people that live house complained? Maybe people have been getting hurt by falling off their bikes at the next corner?

You could be right there Aardy.

Then again maybe it could be that by taking it down from a 100 to an 80 zone the powers that be know that fines / revenue garnered from this location will likely be higher until such time as everyone knows it is now an 80 zone. Then it might be moved to somewhere else, like the bottom of a hill or the only overtaking lane in a 20 km stretch of road somewhere. Just to be safe of course.....

But the possibility does remain that this corner has a history of crashes, so who knows?

Oh and like I said before, I am all for speed limits and the enforcement of them, but in light of all the lives that could be saved in other ways I think speeding attracts too much focus. Let's not kid ourselves here.

We got one of those here. Dumbarses build their flash houses on a highway or a major road and then complain about the speed of the traffic. Now they want it made an 80 zone "at least" and they're muttering about it being unsafe for the kids when they get off the school bus.

Like I said, dumbarses. Last time I looked the limit is 40 when the school bus is there.

While were thinking in a logical manner. Lets just start a group buy of balloons and bike trailers, fill the balloons with water and then go bin to bin and "dispose" of said water filled balloons.

and Daisy that reminds me of when they make racetracks out in the middle of nowhere, population booms mean they build closer and closer to said tracks, then cause of the new homeowners noise complaint "about that stinky racing track being too noisy for little joe to sleep in the middle of the day" and it getting shut down etc..

Shame they cant put a "there first" legislation into the works so that if you build or buy too close to an existing racetrack/airport/dragway its your own stupid fault your copping the noise.

Tullamarine airport does have "there first" legislation restricting the types of development that occurs near the airport. They claim that as one of the reasons why it's better than Kingsford Smith; no curfew and strong noise abatement procedures.
Of course it's probably still not enough to avoid all complaints because it only covers a limited region whereas the planes can be heard for quite a distance. I think I'd actually like to live near the airport

I agree that it's stupid when development approaches noisy/fun locations.
