Justice for killed motorcyclist

It's doesn't make sense does it- career criminal gets ten years for killing motorcyclist during police chase.

Career criminal gang rapes girl during home invasion and gets 40 years with minimum 30 years before eligible for parole. Don't get me wrong, I think justice was definitely served in this example but perhaps this should be used as example as to why the motorcyclist killer got off relatively easy.
