Just to keep neil happy.

Post by Strika »

Since it was very obviously pissing neil off to see my bike dirty  While waiting for the battery to charge on the racer, I took the time to give the old girl a tub and a spruce up. I also replaced the brake pads. There was still plenty of meat on them, but with the snowies trip looming, and knowing that I will probably chuck a few laps of Broadford on it on Saturday, I shouted it some new pads.

I replaced them with the same Carbon based pads from Road Rocket that I had in it previously. I found these pads to be very strong and consistent, without any detrimental wear or damage to the rotors.

I put these pads in the bike just after I got it, so they have done over 20,000 klms including a track day at the creek, and still have about 4000k's left in them at a gestimate. So pretty happy with that all in all.

The chain and sprockets will need replacing also prior to the Snowies trip. they too have done over 20,000 k's! The sprockets are still almost perfect, but I have just started to have to adjust the chain after about every 1000k's, so it's on it's way out. It too will probably do another 10,000 till it's fecked, however, as we have the snowies trip coming up, and I would estimate that I will do probably 4000k's on it, (Melb-CBR-P.I.-CBR-SYD-Melb!), then I should really replace it now rather than risk having to get it done while I'm away without my tools and workshop handy! I hate paying people to do the simple stuff if I can avoid it.:)

I just can't find a neat solution to the ram air duct issue??? So, the 9 is now relegated to touring duties.

I'm still intending to do a fighter, just not sure what donor bike. I am thinking maybe a 10, as the ram air duct is centralised and may be easier to create a new duct for, or hide!

Once the side covers are off you need to put MX rad shrouds on it (ala all the new nakeds) this will cover your inlets and provide your intake solution*. Cut down some funnels and zip tie (natch) to the shroud or make your own from there back into std inlet. But its too neat to fighter anyway Strika...

(* well its what I hope to do to NKD12  )
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Ahh, I was a very good boy. I utilised some water I had collected from when the hot water service popped a vavle the other week. I had about 400 litres stored. It makes it awesomely green to wash my bike with!!!
