Ok so I've got a small top fairing and a belly-pan that I need painting. It's for a track-bike so it doesn't have to look too pretty although as I can't ride very well, the bike's look needs to count for something
Does anyone know roughly how much a paint shop would charge to do it (I live in east Melbourne burbs)?
My other option is to go for my best guess on a color match and grab some aerosol cans instead.
I know its not what your dealing with as its to do with fixing cracks first then spraying, but still, principles apply.
Heres how i fixed my old bikes front mudguard.

put the base resin coat on, then apply the glass and use a chopstick/skewer or something to push the glass down to et the resin thru

its important to cut ALL the glass up before you even think of mixing the resin. THose curetimes can really screw with you, plus just making a real mess if you get resin on glass your cutting.

All the essentials to fixing cracked fairing with fibreglass. In hindsight i'd have some plastex in there to fix the crack, but i'd still reinforce it with glass.

lots of degreaser (in the front yard) followed by heaps of scrubbing and detergent to clean it in the bath.
part two, this is more relevant to you. I used this as a guide on how to spraypaint my fairings.

it took about three or four attempts to get this right. I sprayed 2 LIGHT coats, waiting 5 mins between the coats to ensure thickness and smoothness, sanded with wet 1200 grit wet dry and then another two coats and two again of clearcoat.
took practice,

sand it smooth, to get rid of a crack on one side i had to sand through the paint and into the base primer used originally

paint the spray filler, wait till its almost cured, then put another coat on

sand the current coating down to remove the "gloss", this ensures that the filler and the paint will stick.

Dan if you have a compressor and gun 4l great, at least if you bin it you can get some practice painting and repairs. Other wise summernats in a can, just the prep( ) very painful.
