Bloody Hell

Post by R3Dknight »

Just a quick rant.

I went for a ride with the missus yesterday, as I was riding to a set of lights the road went into 2 lanes. Just as the second lane started I indicated and went to the left and started to pass a car he started to come over into my bloody lane, and to top it off he didnt even indicate.

I was to busy concentrating not to get hit I didnt get a chance to toot my horn. By now i am right next to him and he keeps comming over and I was running out of blody bitumen. I swear he came to 10cm of hitting mine and my fiances leg. I took off infront of him after this and gave him a "what the f..k hand gesture and he didnt even give a "sorry mate" back.

Man my missus was shacken up as that was her first close call on the back of the bike.

anywho, just had to get that off my chest.

see that's the thing, it wasn't even in the city..... it was 40min outside :?

I have plenty of scares but the missus hasn't so. But that will not stop her from getting back on

Glad to hear you are both OK, a bit shaken, but OK.

Years ago, I got booked in NSW for overtaking on the left.........the copper gave me an earful, and called it 'undertaking', because he had attended so many deaths for bikers who 'overtake' on the LH side, and got cleaned up......I was young and impressionable, and it left an impression alright, let me tell you  I am not sure if it is still an offence in NSW or not...... :?

Cagers just don't expect, as a rule, to have someone overtake them in the LH lane, and you can bet your left nuticle that the dill who almost cleaned you up had *no* idea you were there.......

To this day, I am really cautious about 'over'taking in the LH lane in situations as you have described.........freeways etc are a different thing altogether of course. Gotta keep your wits about you.....

yeh gotta say I've learned to be careful when the road splits like that. cars don't expect someone to accelerate up the left like we tend to do :D
Definately asking too much expecting them to actually look/indicate every time they change lanes....

I saw a woman do a right hand turn the other day, while she was quite obviously looking left at some car or truck, to the extent that the more to the right her 4wd went the more to the left her head went...she cut the corner badly and missed by mere millimetres the traffic island...so if they don't even look where they're going....

One of the female couriers in melb carries spark plugs with her - swears by them - personally I don't think I'm coordinated enough to piff a spark plug behind me and hit the right car ...last time I threw a ball at work it took down 12 monitors - not bad for a single throw though...

When I do it I just make sure I hammer it past them fast enough that they don't have a chance to try to kill me.

Overtaking nice and slow and sensible and poliltely is where the danger is. Just blast past so all they know of it is a sudden loud noise and a flash of colour....

i've been in the same posistion.. i nearly had a thebloke clip my back tyre and i coming thru the traffic at the red light..

it seems that they have no patients for bike riders...

thats is why i have stopped using it as my primary trnsportation... just the weekend squirt now.

spark plugs are a great idea... but so it the riding boots in the window...
