I didn't crash But my fairings are rooted!

Post by Paulie »

Hey guys! I just did the DUMBEST EVER IDIOTIC STUPID THING I have ever done... well, lately anyways..

I decided to change my instrument cluster and had to take off the FRONT fairing (with the screen). Put the new instruments in and thought "well, I better take it around the block to make sure the speedo and stuff work!.. So I jumped on the bike and FORGOT to make sure the lower fairings were tight and stuff... I found out will testing the tacho around 12k rpms that they weren't on well enough! I hear a big crack/bang noise as the right hand fairing flies up and hits me in the leg! I looked down and the left hand fairing was GONE and the right one was just scrping along the road beside me. So is stopped in the middle of Old Windsor Road and tried to get the right hand fairing off which wouldnt budge it was held on by the clamp near the brake pedal-so after buring my hand on the exhaust I had to hold the fairing and operate the go putton and brake with my right hand. Got home and jumped in the car to go and find my other bit of fairing which had luckily been blown onto the grass beside the road. No scratches but a fairly long crack which isnt all the way through. The right hand fairing is pretty buggered.

I feel like the biggest DUMB ASS!!!! (please try not to agree with me too much here i feel like a goose already)

Is it expensive to repair these fairings? Its a zxr 400 H model? I dont suppose anyone has a spare set just lying around... preferably in black??

Any reccomendations of a fairing repairer around these parts?

Thanks guys... I will go and smoke a few cigarettes and bang my head on the garage door now until I feel better

Plastex is your friend, especially if the crack isn't all the way through.

Well, dropped my fairings off to get repaired today. $250 for the plastic welding and $385 per side to get them looking original with the kawaski stickers and grey stripe, I told the bloke i'll have a look and see how bad it looks with the welds before I fork out to get it painted cause i dont think they,ll be too obvious
