Hi Gayle... The Victorian government fines people for doing less than 10% over the speed limit... Which is RIDICULOUS because Vicroads requires that your Speedometer is accurate within 10%....

So basically if you are doing 100 on your speedo, you may actually be doing 110.... and that is perfectly fine with Vicroads.....

But the people who hand out the Tickets...... thats... uhm... oh yeah... Vicroads in association with the policeforce... see it quite differently...

Fight your fines Gayle.... Fight them with all your might!!!

No, release of kinetic energy into your body causes traumatic damage. People kill.

If your hit by a 2000kg landcruiser at 60 kmh you will be hurt more than if your hit by a 300kg bike at the same speed. Simple math says its so. In that instance you would be forced to deal with 6.67 times more kinetic energy.

Any vehicle is a power tool operated by levers to put kinetic energy to use. All power tools can cause harm. The operator is responsible for any harm they cause.

Zero or low tolerance speeding fines just create a pool of speedo watchers who are not looking at whats going on around them; making them more dangerous to others.

As Neka said, speed is a factor in all accidents; because if nothing was moving there would be no accident. However in and of itself speed does not kill you. If it did we would all die horrible deaths in airplanes on transcontinental flights.

Realistically the three I's kill. Inexperience, Idiocy and Inebriation. But even then, its the person behind the wheel or at the bars who made the decision to travel at excessive speed, drive or ride drunk, to take that corner in that way, to not take more care at dusk.... So in the end a person is responsible for any death involved in an accident. Excepting acts of god, ie sheer bad misfortune and having a tree fall on you or some such.

You are a person, you are in the end responsible for your actions. Not god, not speed, not any other factor, just you.

If speed kills, even in accidents, i would have been dead a LONG LONG time ago. (Stop that groaning you up the back  )
The old joke of its the sudden stop is SO true
IF speed kills the NT would have a higher death toll
IF speed kills Europe would have a higher death toll
IF speed kills, how come all the race car drivers and MotoGp guys et al arent dead.
INAPPROPRIATE speed kills.
DONT beleive the government propaganda.
Next thing you will tell me the new IR laws are good for us too
WANKERS
Speed outside a school (for example) and I will be at the front of the lynch mob...

ANARCHY !!!! (OK that bit is a joke)
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

its the old chestnut of if they keep telling you something, then eventually your going to think "it must be true", gumbyments been saying it for years as an easy copout from 1) the "wont somebody think of the children" crowd, a.k.a. "mrs lovejoy" on the simpsons, 2) having to raise the standard in regards to licensing.

2000kg? :? Mine's 2400kg empty.

Loaded up for a weekend away in the bush = ~3100kg

+ trailer & Polaris = ~3450kg..

Speed doesn't kill, people who can't drive [or fu(k it up badly] kill.

Edit: Oh, and stop being a hoon Gig..
