The Pearl Reclaimed.... Edited with some dodgy vid footage

Post by swabio-ACT »

Well.. once there was an evil rider on an even evil'er bike.... the infamous Black Pearl.....

No one was game enough to attempt to dethrone the Pearl.... until..... CPL Krychev returned from slaying mutated monsters, oh and midgets on scooters, in the Tunguska region of Siberia.... The fate of the free world rested upon the shoulders of this lone Mad Russki......

This is a short pictorial of what transpired.....

and some dodgy vid footage here.... and yes it is crap and dodgy... but apparently, my 3yo son hasn't mastered the use of the DV cam!

Well, ......I'd been chasing it for quite some time...... ......by the time I got hold of it, I knew exactly what it was capable of, and which bits worked, and which bits that hadn't fallen off worked

Out of interest was there a different technique in the riding ?
I find that no matter what I do on the Darmah it doesnt matter but that the 12 (for example) needed a cheek off the seat to turn and rode just like the 7.
The NSR (with TOTALLY shagged suspension) takes a different technique again, apart from the fact that you cant get off the throttle even for a second. Gos's bikes would be well maintained (I am guessing) so it should be a good example of old vs new handling.

Its a time warp mate. The old Zeddie actually isn't as bad as most of the old shitters from the 70's, its had some frame bracing and the forks have good internals, plus a set of Koni 7610's on the rear help. Brakes have been upgraded with Aussie Ninja's old ZX6R front caliper and some home-made braided lines, its stops pretty well all things considered. Goes *OK* for its age (being a fuel-injected 1100, it has some good mid-range grunt  )

Not many other people have ridden the Pearl over the last few years, and Strika just jumped on and got on the gas *immediately* it was cool to watch. If you are ever coming through this way, you are welcome to jump on and have a fang...........its a blast from the past in every way

That bike is so COOL!

Man ya just gotta love the old wire wheels, and the lack of mirrors makes it look so low and tough. I take it the mirrors were just removed for the photo shoot?

It looks like it would spin up very easily with that tyre on the rear there, must be a heap of fun to ride. I imagine it would get a lot of comments from people too.

The 9 in comparison looks very... comfortable.

hahahaha trust me mate, he never has mirrors on it, he just looks over his shoulder to see who's managed to keep up...which isn't too many people when he's riding it hard cos it changes direction pretty quick. Marty reckons it was leaving some pretty good blackies out of the corners too, and it was scrubbed up pretty nicely at the edges after some of those runs.

thanks Hemi, it really is my favourite bike out of all of them, for many many reasons.......it has gotten me into and out of plenty of trouble since 1981, and every year it just comes back for more abuse !!

No mirrors, no horn, and not much in the way of indicators either.......it does have a working brake light, headlight and tailight.

that was a surprise, but it did feel a bit *squirrelly* in some , ahhh, tighter corners...... . Continental 'Conti Tour' in the hyper-sports size of 120/90 x 18. It may sound skinny ( and it is), but this tyre lets me get both footpegs on the deck with reckless abandon. Front is a 100/90 x 19 Metzeler Laser M33 - the *only* front tyre I use on any of the old bangers on the street.

I just love that Zed !!
