Car Service-Should I Find Cheaper?

Post by Paulie »

Hey all, just me being a tight arse. But I booked my car in for the 45,000kms service on friday and they said its gonna cost me like $400 cause its a major service. If it was the bike I wouldn't care because well, I am OVER the car. So I'm thinking K-Mart tyre and auto or ultra tune would no doubt be somehwat cheaper than Mitsubishi Service, but would they do the same job? Would it affect my warranty on the car? (bought it new lastyear).

Tell me should i just cough up the $400 or be the tight arse and find it cheaper somewhere else?

Cause of xmas feelin a little cheap.

Taking the car to another authorised (Licenced?) mechanic as far as I know does not void the warranty - My work takes all it's cars to K-Mart auto and have never had a problem - however each centre will be only as good as the ppl they hire so there is a small element of risk. $400 sounds a lot - it costs me $350 at Mercedes for my car and I thought they would charge like wounded bulls...

Yeap agree as long as it's an approved place it will be all OK. Ask what they change for a major as well as some ppl's ideas are diff to others.... I know we have an AU 1 and plugs r nornal price (approx $25) and also have an AU3 fairmont and a set of plugs for that was $96 both 6cyl too....
Ask round a tad more and see what the norm is

Hmm.. just rang the local kmart tyre/auto. They quoted $345... so i'm thinking I may aswell just take it to Mitsubishi. thought kmart would be heaps cheaper like sub200's or something. For the sake of $50 I may aswell just get the dealer service hey

They're generally not that much cheaper - work does it because they get a fleet discount so that makes it attractive enough to switch.

i got to a ultratune...not so much cos of the price, but cos of the service they give me.... the owner looks after his customers well ...and the price is similar.... his mech's are pretty handy too...

Ultratune would be my pick thats where all my mates use to take their cars for services cheaper then a dealers service and do just as good a job..

Maybe it's just me, but $400 for a major service on a car doesn't sound that bad...depending what they do of course...

thats a 100K which is a whole lot more than a 45k service

and magnas are a shitload of labour on a 100k service

parts would be a big cost in that
