anyone ever broken a tooth on food?

Post by mike-s »

Was at my dads last night for a bbq, had some spanish saussages and steak and some other average stuff. Halfway through the saussage i feel a twinge of pain on the right side of my mouth as i bite into a snag, but it seems ok, so i don't worry too much.

I get to work this morning, a tooth feels a bit rough on the same point where i bit the night before. I have a look and it seems ok & nothing out of the ordinary. I bite into a chip or something and half of one of the points on my rhs jaw first molar fricking goes missing! No pain like the nerves are exposed, just an annoying feeling like i've got a rock in my mouth.

thankfully i've got health insurance, but stuffed if i know what they can do aside from taking the burr off and doing a bit of generic "fill in" to make sure it stays ok.

perfect bloody timing, hope i can get an appointment at the dentist before friday.

yeah heaps of fun. my tounge feels like it's been attacked by a dozen scourer pads because theres a nice sharp bit of tooth pointing back towards it.

might have to resort to a peice of wet & dry to take the sharpness off the point when i get home, it's really shittin me off that much.

...try a nail file (a metal one, not a sandpaper board).

i feel your pain mike.

i broke mine on pizza the day after a mad piss up. same tooth as you.. i paid it no mind, and would use whiskey or rum to disinfect/numb the tooth (it works too). but i left it waaaayy too long and had to get root canal therapy on it (thank you Australian Army for free dental!!!)

now i look after my teeth 200% better than i used to.

and try not to play with the pointy part of your tooth too much... your tongue will get sore, and careful when you bite/chew coz the inside of your cheek may get caught and it hurts plenty

it was the inside of the tooth, so it's not going to affect my cheek much. I'm planning to see a dentist asap if not sooner. just a prick of a time of year to have this happen though :-\.

I'm tryin to eat soft foods anyway, avoid using the right side of my jaw and wash my mouth out heaps. If im lucky they might just be able to cap the exposed part of my tooth and smooth the edges.

ive taken to it with a file just to take the sharp edge off the tooth so i can avoid slicing my tounge up any more than i already have (its f*in sore after today @ work)

and if it comes to root canal work, honestly, fuck it, im getting it pulled, its not worth the pain and suffering i've seen friends going through to get that shit fixed.

Let nature take it's course!
I had a tiny metal rod fitted into my front tooth after i chipped them on the handle bars of a mates bike, after 30 odd years the fill they used on the tooth and the rod have been worn away, I must have had huge teeth when I was young.

I broke one on a Crunchie bar once, particularly crunchy I guess... had it drilled and filled but in the end too deep, rpoot canal or pull it, I opted for the pull given I have no health insurance and the root canal was some 1.5g worth roughly

Broke a tip off a molar and a little of the side wall.

Dentist sorted it witha white repair and all has been fine since.

Good luck matey.

Tell me about it, it is cheaper to take an overseas holiday and have extensive dental work done in Bombay.

Well i think its pretty much cracked the entire tooth itself , it still might salvageable, but i really havent a clue, will try to get a dentist to check it asap, in which case i may have to get the fugger pulled.

Oh and i I have health insurance, but im not going to put myself through shitloads of mouth pain (i've heard too many stories) if it can be sorted. I've already had fillings that have gone pretty deep and that frickin hurt, gonna avoid repeating the experience if i can.

I did one years ago too, but the dentist just plugged it back up. It did re- fall apart once more but its held up nearly 20yrs now. Know a few people who'v had root canals recently and they said they're nothing...other than the cost of course!! Cant say from personal exp tho, but one is particularly freaked by dental work and she was pleasantly surprised.
