optimax vs Premium

Post by kawa zx12R »

Hi guys i was wondering what your opinion is on what the best for our bikes.

i was reading a thread on the TW forum and there was no distinctive response from kwaka rider.

its been said that shell optimax is no good...

I have a ZX12R... and mostly use caltex (as they are around the corner), but on some occasion i have filled up with optimax... (small country towns).

Can some one advice me whats good or bad.....? :?

Optimax is no more :)

I've filled the bike few times with Shell '95' and is okay (carburated).

Optimax is no more...sez Andi
its now VPOWER...wtf???

and its NO good in bikes with carbies
(well most Kawasakis with carbs)
Use Mobil or Caltex or Jet instead

me..???
I use anyones premium...BP or Caltex or Mobil
seem to be the go (coz they are the closest servos to home)

and I see no reason to pay around $1.40 for Shell VPOWER
when their 95 octane stuff is $1.28 and works just as well

oh btw...
if you really wanna go stupid..try VPOWER PLUS (racing)
only at selected Shell (read Coles) stores..at $1.49 litre

V Power Plus (100 RON octane) contains Ethanol and is not suitable for alot of vehicles.
Vpower has the lowest MON rating out of all the top 98 RON octane fuels. Due to the reality of this, I won't use it, as it can cause pinging (pinking/ knock) more-so than the other major 98RON fuels.
I stick with BP Ultimate and Mobil 8000. Haven't had any dyno time with Caltex's stuff.

Probably, that and no water. I hear vics hostibuls are as bad in management?

Anyway back on topic, I wouldn’t bother with 98ron on FI bikes, 95 is recommended and IMO makes no bit of difference running either.
I would try if I could to use either BP or Caltex. Remember some independents run shell through their bowsers and pays to ask first!

I alternate between 95 and 98, no noticeable difference in running, although I would prefer to use 98 all the time its just sometimes the price is ludicrous.
I think 95 should be the minimum run through a high performance Jap bike.

I have never used optimax and dont intend to, BP Ultimate gives me the best seat of the pants dyno reading !!

I only use 98, and only from Mobil or Caltex.

I might just fill up with 95 next time and see if I can spot any difference...

I use only mobil 8000 or bp ultimate. They are made by the same refinery and a different colour is added for bp or mobil. :D Caltex do make a 98 now which i wont use. Only ever used 98 so dont know what the 95 is like.

Changing fuels can take a few tanks to take affect as the computer has to set itself right with the different octane. So if you want to check you might have to use a couple of tanks and see what happens. Same as when you go back to 98 you will have the same situation.
