Fuggin bike batteries

Ok so the battery in the GPX has been half stuffed for a while, yet the thing would still roll start. But no, not today, when I need to get to work on time. Got all the way down my street and not even a pop from the engine, just useless rolling.

Just had to take the cage to work. Man this sucks.

Nothing more to it than that, just having a whinge. Can't wait for the afternoon traffic gridlock.....

sounds like its open circuited.........

and my battery is still going strong, left the K factory in nov 97 !!!!!!!

my battery in my GPX died after two weeks, mechanic told me there was nothing wrong with it, just needed a charge so he charged it and it died two days later. Took the bike to battery world, they tested it and said the third cell was stuffed, i bought one from them for around $35.00

id suggest first checking the fluid levels in the battery, had that happen to me with my gpx. i put bottled water in the battery and after a half hour run it was as good as new

its been half stuffed for a while but you didnt buy a new one ?

the cage is your punishment for not reaplacing the battery

Yeah I am always topping the water up in the battery, every month or so it needs it. But still it runs out of charge if I don't start it every day or so.

And yes Johnnie5 (is that a Short Circuit reference?) I think you are right. I just can't justify the $35 ATM lol, even though I pay more than that just for brake fluid for the racebike each time out hehehe. Well this is what ya get I spose.

I was just having a whinge anyway, I am sure I can make this battery last another few months, it just means a lot of push starting and making sure I get to it every day....

Mine's killed 3 Batts in 18 months. Had the charging circuit tested after the second went, they said it was OK. Now they believe they were wrong and it's the rectifier ($270

Look at the bright side- a battery is cheaper than any tyre,(they get replaced a lot more often too) AND you got to ride in the MOPAR. Where's the downside?

or maybe the stator or maybe they have NFI and are guessing

Hemo duty , by pushing along a stuffed battery you will overload the charge circuit and could end up with a stuffed reg or stator

cmon lets face it, what did it cost you taking the car to work today , get used to it

Nah Bonester I wish I was in the Charger or the Valiant, but unfortunately they are both in the back yard waiting for me to do something with them, white-trash style.

I jumpstarted it today off the Valiant battery, and rode to work with the headlight off, so hopefully it has atleast charged enough for me to push start it outa here to get home......

Ah it is good to ride to work again.

I have a spare batt at home

thought mine was stuffed but nope, it was something else

I had the reg/rect blow on my CBR, the honda ones are really expensive... I bought an aftermarket one from a honda dealer in NZ.... was about $140 cheaper and had a much bigger heatsink...

Hey hemi just pull one out of the r1 it should fit then you can justify buying a new one for the r1.

My battery has been a bit dodgy lately with it sitting while i am waiting for parts and doesnt go much further than the shops so i pulled it out and its a sealed job anyway i cleaned up the battery terminals and it goes like a bought one again.

If you have one of those little service chargers I bought one while i was unlicenced you can fit the battery connection permanently and plug the charger in when you get home from work and it will be charged and ready to go in the morning.

the charger i have is a trickle charger with charge setting and a maintenance setting and it takes about 5 days to charge a truck battery so it wont cook anything.

I blew the rectifier on my CB400 (import). Luckily the Firestorm one bolted in, was heavily finned ($180) and works like a charm. A couple of things you can do to improve the lifespan of the Honda regs are to smear heatsink grease on the rear of the reg so that the heat is transferred to the frame of the bike, and the other is to fit a cooling fan that goes on and off with the ignition. (mine is connected to the indicator relay, which goes on and off with the ignition.) $20 or so gets you the fan, and peace of mind knowing the bugger will get you home. My CB has had the fan installed for two years with no probs now.
