600 advice
Just after a bit of advice on 600's. Friend of mine is stepping up from a 250 and is looking for a good second hand 600. Not so worried about what brand, more concerned with not buying a lemon. Looking at a ceiling of about $8000. Anyone want t0 tell any stories (good or bad) on 600s that they've owned, any brands. Bit of info on good points or, more importantly, bad points and brand and model year would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I got a 99 cbr600 two and a half years ago, cost me 9 grand with 12,500k on the clock. Has cost me bugger all except 3 batteries and usual service costs. So far I have added 61,000k and it's about to start costing me money. Mustn't grumble

All the 600's are pretty much bullet proof. I have heard a horror story about every brand at some stage, but on the whole these things are very reliable. From personal experience i would support Mikes opinion on CBR600's being a good reliable bike. But just like Mike they tend to do most things well, but excell at nothing!
If you want a stand out motor, in a decent chassis with good brakes and reasonable comfort, then the last of the old shape 636's (before the Barra) are a good option. Or if you were lucky, you might even find an 05 636 for 8 if you hunted around a bit!!!!!!! And they are a brilliant little bike. Best I have ever owned in terms of power and handling in a 600 package!!!!!

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?
