monkey straps?

Anyone know where i can get those monkey straps that tie down accross the handle bars from in sydney? or something similar.

has anyone used them and are they any good?

i found that just using normal tie downs will rub on the fairing and i dont particularly want to do that.

i know Bcomponents sell them but i need them by the weekend and i forgot about this till now so i reckon im probably too late to get them by friday.

You have a 2005/6 636 yeah?? If so, then I recommend you don't use the bar straps. They pull in towards the centre on a trip and fuck the left hand side switchblock!!!!!!!!

Suggest a call first! to make sure

& with the switch block prob they should not be pulled too tight there is no need for it thats the way they work + place the strap under the bars not over will help

Believe me when I say I tried everywhich way to make them work. I bought two sets here as part of the group purchase KSRC did. I bought them specifically so I wouldn't scratch my pretty new 636 when going to the track. Well they were crap in my opinion! I have gone back to soft hooks and D-clip equipped tie downs. I even "gave away" the other set I bought.

hmmm, I had a set and used em on my zx9r once, they bent the handlebars. These were aftermarket hollow tube bars though so I was going to give em another shot on my zx10r as they are heavier bars.
I gave up on a getting a set and I now have the 7 with lightweight hollow bars again so I bought some of these,

I strap these around the bottom triple clamp and they clear the fairings and keep the hooks away... I also have the soft hooks on my tie downs which helps keep things scratch free...

A lot of ppl use the the others whith great successs though...

Aero fast have a new set out with soft hooks and D-clips. They are advertised in the last issue of AMCN.

My tie downs came off the ark I reckon. I may have to lash out and buy some newies as last trip one looked to be frayed a tad too much. If I get the new Aerofast jobbies I'll post a report no doubt!!!

HeyMrStompy look at all the choices you have now!
Just thinking there are some advertised in AMCN that use a channel over the back wheel so there is no compression of the front forks... anyone tried these? I have always wondered what they would be like?

No, but if somebody else has tried 'em, bung in a *Product Review*

they look pretty good ( and imho, would be pretty easy to knock up in the shed, for *not much*

There is another method for locking your bike into the trailer/ute whatever.......I will post up some shots when its finished

it does not involve tie-downs, or bar-breaking thingamabobs at all. In fact, there are no fabric *straps* of any description

......hopefully it will work a treat for the trip to Sydney this weekend......

Strika's right, they do cane the LH switch block.... it caused my indicator button thingy to pop off.... and going under the bars results in rubbing on the fairing.....

there is one way to stop it.... and that is to rotate the switch block up, so the switches are out of the way...

I have used the monkey strap thingys with plenty of sucess you just have to watch the trailer tiedown points and rember you are tieing down a bike not a jet aircraft thats trying to take off so you dont have to tighten your tiedowns till the suspension is bottomed out and the front tyre is flat.

And watch out for the switch blocks or have the straps so they come out underneath he bars rather than over the top.

I have seen those tyre down things used and they would be great if you have a trailer set up for them.

i have a spare pair that i dont need (was saving them for a rainy day but i dont ride in the rain), but they go over the grips.

Get yourself a tyredown.
A bit of messing around with the trailer at first to make sure the tiedown points are in the right spot, but then it's all good. I use it with my 9 and haven't had a problem. Everyone I speak to with them love them also.
