96 or 97?
Just got the Haynes manual for my bike. l bought the bike as a 1996 zx600f and the rego label says it is a 96. The manual states the frame numbers, so l thought l would check.
1996 =JKAZX4F1-TA017001 to 030000
1997 =JKAZX4F1-VA030001 on
mine =JKAZX4F 15VA030083
dunno why there is a 5 in there and the engine numbers and frame match the plate.

Kawasaki often bring new models out late in the preceeding year. So 1997 models started being complied most likely in Oct/Nov?dec of 1996! So yours may be a 1996 complied 1997 model ZX6! Is it still in original colours?

I think the chequers were a 97 scheme, but don't quote me, it's been a while! But the paint doesn't really tell the story, just have a look atthe compliance plate date! that will tell you. Unless of course it doesn't have a compliance plate!!!SnypR wrote:well...the front fairings have been resprayed red over green, but the fairng around the seat is red with the white checkers.

Yup, they were...Strika wrote:I think the chequers were a 97 scheme, but don't quote me, it's been a while!
The T- and V- are key. They're ISO year-model codes. T for 1996, V for 1997. Honda and Suzuki incorporate them directly into their model designations (the CBR1000RR6 is a 2006 model FireBlade), Kwak and Yamaha hide them in the chassis numbers.

Um, nope. That was the G-model, and they only just snuck in a couple of weeks before the end of 1997.ZXR750 wrote:The F Model was a 96 Model. The J model started in 97.
