I found some pics in an old AMCN
It seems the person in question just won the 125 round and did a celebratory wheelie that went horribly wrong. The bike went over the crash barrier and then over the 2 mtr high spectator fence..

Can you name the rider.. ?
Sure can. As a matter of fact I witnessed it happen!!! Couldn't feckin believe it!! He has since gone on to redeem himself with a national SS and SBK crown. Josh Brookes!!!!

He should have left the hair!! It might make him stand out on the grid a bit more now! He could reinvent himself as an Aussie version of Rossi. WIth long hair and crazy antics, like looping it after the race!! Oh hang on......that's Max's Mantle isn't it!!!! Anyone remember "THAT" wheelie!!!!!!!!!! I think it started the whole stunting revolution!!!!!!!

Classic Motorcycle Mechanics - 100% from about 1990 onwards ( Great pommie mag for Jap bikes from 60's/70's/80's.)

A lot of early Cycle Guide's from the US ( mainly 60's and 70's.)

Also correct.. He won the first race and finished 3rd in the 2nd race which put him equal first in the championship, hence the wheely..

Yeah he pulled the front up coming over the crest and wheelied down the hill before flipping it mightily! And I mean flip!!! It spun like a twenty cent coin! We thought he'd killed himself!!! He looked like a rag doll! But..he got up...dusted himself off...and started clutching his head in his hands and shaking his head!! All the while, his little 125 was cart wheeling better than any bike I had seen, disintegrating all the while and eventually flipping itself over that rather tall cyclone fence and into the spectator area. Luckily no spectators where standing right there!!! It's funny looking back on it now, but it wasn't really cheery at the time!!! Lucky boy!
