guys .. how is it to do an "leg-length" knee down as this mortad guy ? I saw a pic in TW a guy did it on an R6.

I tried it and got both the tip of boot and knee down, but could not feel the middle boot/leg scraping.

I know it's not relevant on speed etc. but hell that makes a good photo :P:

I need to work on my body position a bit I reckon. I know I had been sitting to close to the tank so I couldn't move around enough, which I've been working on recently. I reckon I would've been pretty close in this pic if my body position was better...

any suggestions? aside from getting sliders first

I find that it just happens.

I used to ride old 80s bikes, CX500, GS1100, GS1000 S

The CX500 scraped its pegs and would kick your foot off

GS1100 scraped the zorst

GS1000 S scraped the zorst then the engine casing, this caused the back wheel to lift off the ground, DAMN NEAR HIGH SIDED! freakin scary

I now ride an R1, chasin round other bikes the knee just goes down, sometimes seems like its pinned between the bike and the ground.

Its not something that u learn to do, it just happens.
police now targeting R1s

1) Relax your arms... your hands should be holding onto the bars as though you were holding a baby chicken. (Not as though you are trying to crush a baby chicken!!)

2) Get the balls of your feet onto the pegs.

3) Get your arse off the seat. Pivot around the tank.

4) Stick your knee out.

5) Have confidence that if nothing is scraping then you're bike hasn't reached it's lean angle limits yet.

I think I was putting too much pressure on the outside peg (with my foot).... I will have to work on that...
Cant wait for my next track day...

I haven't yet reached the point of getting knee down, but having spoken to a couple of friends who said they went faster (on the road at least) without scraping their knees than when they did, I realised its not entirely neccessary.

Would be nice to be able to do though

Getting your knee down is one of those things, where, when you can't do it, you really want to. Then when you start doing it, you wanna grind it into the tarmac. Then after a while doing this, you realise it's just a guid moe than anything else, and you just get on with riding the bike and what happens happens!

I have always found it far easier to scrape my knee's ....when I lean the bike over!!!!!

As Hemi says, you best be watching the fast guys for real cues, but for us mere mortals, this is how I do it! :D

Hey strika how fast do you have to go for that knee-down on turn 1 at broadfoard? I've never had the guts to do that :(

What about turn 1 at PI does one get the knee down easily too (it's 200kph corner I heard) ?

Third gear and plenty of beans will get ya knee down at turn one at Broadford, or so the minor infringement to my knee slider indicates 8)
