Valention Rossi in the WRC

Post by Mr Sparkle »

With my real passion being WRC, its weird to once again see Valention Rossi at the helm of an AWD monster, though he's not doing terribly well being over 2 minutes off the pace, lets see if he can improve.

The final WRCar was that of Valentino Rossi, who was obviously taking things easy on the slippery gravel, in line with his objective of getting to the end of the event. However, he was another driver who seemed to suffer at the end of the stage, dropping a minute between the last split and the stage end. Rossi was 2min37sec off Gronholm's pace

He's good, but have you heard of John Surtees ?

and even though he was a total *wanker*, I still reckon Freddie Spencer's double GP World titles in 1985 make him one of the best riders to ever throw a lid on !!

Sorry mate but Rossi still has 5 or so years left to race in motoGP, and will be remembered as the best (like him or hate him)

Has anyone seen Travis's effort in a WRX in Nitro Circus 3 ??
Would have to be some of the best on board footage ever.. that guy is so cool he is kewl....
I also thought that Vale was pretty good in all his other outings in rally. When he HAS raced WRC, a few times in the English and last year in NZ, he has done fairly well, but failed to finish.
This time (apparently) he is taking it easy to finish

I think he finished 11th, some 15 minutes down on Peta Solberg! :)

He definitely is the best *at the moment*, in exactly the same way that John Surtees was *The Best*, Giaccamo Agostini was *The Best*, and Kenny Roberts was *The Best*, and then a couple more yanks  , and then Mick Doohan........... :prayer:

in 10 years time, there will be another *The Best *......the title is simply a constantly evolving reality.

While I agree with you Gos, those that are still alive on that list have said that Vale is the best SO FAR. Some of the stuff he does seems to defy physics.
Mind you after his last little hiccup maybe he is NOT a god (small letters), I dont think I had seen him pussy before and didnt think I ever would....

I see him as the same sort of phenomenom (enomoenom) as Tiger Woods or any of the new breed of "from birth" athletes. Not unlike the Don was to cricket.

Which is why I think Biaggi (cant stand him) is even more incredible.
A person that didnt hop on a bike until he was 21 (?) and then has a 250 world title in three years !!!! Now I am not REAL sure on the figures but I know it was something damn close to that .

It is always difficult to compare riders from different era's with differing bikes. In some ways I can see how Valentino Rossi is considered the best. However, as a rider/ex racer, who has maybe 1% the skill of the fast guys, I look at it more from a rider skill point of view than overall results. Sometimes a rider can be riding a peak of a technology advantage wave, and other times it's all about the rider.

In my opinion, I have seen Mick Doohan, do more amazing things with a mtorcycle and still stay on. Whereas, I have seen Valentino do some solid things, and crash when trying to do amazing things.

When Mick won his first title, it could not be considered that he had a bike advantage at that time. In reality, it was really that he was the only one who could ride the thing to it's potential. Later, in his carreer, you could see how much bike development had put him in front of the others (not taking anything away from his other 5 championships.

Mick was one of those riders, who could override the bike, and stay on it, for the most part. I used to enjoy wathcing him going into turns, holding front wheel slides and catching it with the throttle. Gobsmacking skill.

While Rossi is def the Best ATM, I still believe that there were better riders. Not as succesfull sure, but in pure rider ability and talent terms, better.

Kevin Schwantz was another of the riders, who, while his results were not always brilliant, was one of the most talented riders ever. I am still gobsmacked every time I watch footage of Schwantz sticking it up the inside of the other Gp riders into turns. Awesome. I think Kevin had a very average bike, which he rode the wheels off consistently! :)

Biaggi waqs 18 when he did his first trackday.

Nana Says Rossi is the Best Ever.

Mick Doohan was the Best Healer ever.

Gardner was the best ever to get there on "His" own.

"Ago" was the Best ever Athlete to ride a bike.

Barry Sheene was the BEST personality ever to race gp.

Rossi is god He dropped 70 points through no Fault of his own (2 Engine failures & Tyre Failure) Rode the worst bike in the paddock until the Ilmore arrived, rode another 3 races with broken bones in his hand/wrist & foot & lost the world championship by how many points after the longest motogp season ever ... 5 points wasn't it ?.

What's he gotta "do it all while packen' a six pack of donuts" too impress how good he is.
"Nan & Pop Racing"
Poppy Hops on .... CBR150 (Superlite) CBR954 "Blade"
Nanna Naps on .... MoriWAKI NSR85 (Motolite) ZX10R "Crim"
We may ride like Old Can'ts, But Phuk we look DOOG !!!!!!

Ponti is fulla crap (we knew that neway)

i agree with Strika...as i sit here reading this thread & playing with myself as i download sum beastiality, it occurs to me that
1. surely the horses love it??
2. technology plays as big a part as rider skill.

weve argued this many times....JB is a factor in Rossi and Doohan..as Mick is a factor of Vale's training etc in his early 500cc days....

so many things affect the outcome these days...Rossi is the best of his era..doohan was the best of HIS era...and boy there could be sum more fun to come with casey in the future...

  *shakes head in amazement* fair dinkum is there no end to your sickness ??

Dick Moohan will *always* be IMHO the best rider ever to throw on the leathers.

Schwantzy ?? remember when he ran alongside the bike in giant steps after a hideous near-highside ????

Vale did a fantastic save on the 250's once as well, I am sure most of us have seen *that* footage  - kissing the front mudguard
