Is the zx7r a bit of a cult bike in Aus?.

ZX6R, ZX10R, ZX14R, Ninja 1000 etc

just proves a point tho, regardless of whether your K6 is 2 years old or 6 months old, they're still only any good for polishing huh

If they help bring out his inner fuckwit and show him to be as much of a Kishy as I suspect him to be, then yes.

He could've defused the current situation with a simple "Yeh, I fucked up. I meant that I've had the ZX9 for two years, not the K6".

Or he could've prevented the current situation from arising in the first place by refraining from wading into other people's conversation with "What do you want a ZX7 for? They're for poor people."

I'm applying the same standard here that I would apply, and have applied, on a servo forecourt, out the front of a cafe or any other place. If someone bounds over and starts regalling me and the group I'm with about how anti-establishment he is, how much money he's embezzled from the government, how sick the people he *usually* rides with go on the road and how shit all our bikes are compared to his, he gets asked to stay behind when we start kitting up to leave.

Getting back to the subject at hand .....I think you don't really appreciate how good a 7R is until you own one.

Best bang for $ on the market! :D If that makes me a poor bastard so be it. A bike is only as good as the person riding them(regardless of what you own).

As far as a cult bike in OZ? .....probably not. Nothing like the UK or USA for that matter.

One other thing I recall clearly about the ZX7R's, was the overall reaction in the bike press at the time, about how well-planted the front end was. Not having ridden one, I have no experience, but the journo's at the time raved about it - one of reckoned it felt like your hands were holding the front axle.

It rated at the time as the best front-end ever on a Kawasaki.

hands on the axles is a great way to describe it, feels like you'd notice it if you ran over an ant. gets a bit tiring on the wrists tho and coupled with the position and rock hard seats, doesn't make for a shit hot tourer

but fark me if it doesn't feel like its in its element fanging around the twisties, or better still, around the island :D one thing you'll never feel on a 7R is uncertain if it'll stick, 100% confidence at all times.

even if i wasn't a broke arse chump, i cant see myself without a 7. reckon there might be room in my garage for one of these for some time still....

As far as the wrists go it is something you get used to/adapt riding style(keep the weight off your arms). The hard seat, well yeah true but same goes for all sportsbikes.

Touring...done many a 1200 + km trip on the 7 and i don't like the word touring, i prefer "performance touring" :) .

i'm sure you would get used to it, wont ever make it comfy tho :P

i made the call to switch to MX bars and loved it since then. still has the same front end feel, just makes it a LOT easier to ride.

and not all sportsbike seats are equal, sitting on an 02 GSXR is like being in a lounge chair by comparison

Girlies! did 5600km over 8days (BrisVegas to PI for 04 MotoGp) no sore wrists or back just an aching face from laughing and grinning!
The 7R was biggest blast I had with my clothes on, I will never foget the induction roar going up and over Mt Hotham. I am an average to shit rider but only 2 guys overtook me (my bro on his 954 and an R1) going up the mountain, the bike kept me on my side of the road at mind boggling speeds.
Fark the 7R made me look better than I really was

Im with Redave here.
Put a tank bag on for touring and it takes all the weight off your wrists.
According to ASS you shouldnt HAVE wieght on your wrists unless you are steering it like a wheelbarrow anyway   In reality its a bit hard to ride in the "attack" position the whole time but eh?

And Gos i have had the 12 and the 7 (still have both but neither going  ) The 7 still has the better front than the 12 even though they are so similar that you can jump from one to the other that only the "wheelstands" suprise you... Both are VERY stiff bikes (if you know what I mean) with hard suspension.
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Couple of years back when the 7 was terminated from the Kawasaki line up ( 2001?*) I saw one at a run out price of only $11990* at PS and I remember thinking at the time what a great asset it might become if I could afford to pack it away in its crate for say 20 years*.

*Give or take^
