The Silk Purse Project continues..

Post by MadKaw »

Stage 4 of the silk purse project is now completed and she is just about ready to go.
The fork rebuild I did had a bit of a problem as I couldn't turn the rebound all the way in so it was off with the caps for an inspection. It seems when you put the caps back on you need to ensure the rebound is wound all the way in... Anyway, that problem was sorted so it was onto the brakes.
I removed and split the calipers and cleaned up the seals, reassembled and bled the brakes. A 2 hour job became an all dayer when it turned out the previous owner had used silicon based fluid and I was using glycol.. So the bleed turned into a complete flush...
Any way all went well and the brakes felt substantialyy better after.
Many beers were then consumed...

Damon came over with his trusty spray gun and we added a white stripe to the side fairings. It looks pretty good so, surprisingly, we had a few beers to celebrate.
Damon also re coated the carbon fibre air duct as it had a few cracks in it..
I picked up a couple of Renthal 520 rear sprockets on ebay (very cheap) and Brian (greenman43) gave me a spare 520 front sprocket so all that was needed was a 520 chain. Picked up one of those at MAW the other day, with nice gold links so that all went on today.. If you haven't checked the weight difference of a 520 cconversation I suggest you do, it can add quite a few HP just in driveline wight reduction.
A Motrax tank protector went on too as did some mushrooms I picked up, both very cheap.. :-)

The pics below are during the chain fitting process.. A rattle gun is an essential for front sprocket removal..

Looks like a good thing to me. :D
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I always believe if you can't be fast at least look fast...

The slower you go the more ppl see your bike....

Rob from RT Screen printing has knocked up a bunch of stickers for it, so it should be all dressed up and ready for its track debut next Tuesday..

Yeh, we brushed on some left over paint. We did a lot of patching and repairing to the fairings it came with, they were pretty bad... so it had filler visible everywhere...

Looks good mate. It'll be good to see it on the track on Tuesday. We need a photographer though.

Looks good for now, hope it stays that way after your trackday. :)
