I replied to his thread last night, but it got lost....
Anyway, I have dropped my bikes a few times. First and most memorable
was when I was still on my L's, riding the Virago 250 like a gumby on the back streets around home. Came to a T-intersection which is at the bottom of a steep hill, couldn't get co-ordinated enough to look left & right, gear change down, whilst braking enough down the hill to come to a stop. Promptly dropped the bike, jumped up and kicked it and then started working out how I was going to lift it, especially as Jeff hadn't realised the situation and kept going.
There was also the time was when I was still a
rider on the Virago 250. We were at the servo in the middle of nowhere, and I pulled up for petrol and got off the bike....forgetting to put the sidestand down.
Sunday afternoon in the sticks + broken clutch lever = expensive tow!
Then when I got the Z750, I dropped it a couple of times in getting used to the huge difference between the Virago (god I was glad to have sold it!) and it. Once was coming down our road (another steepish downhill) into our driveway (a very steep uphill), took the turn from the road into the driveway too slowly, and over she went, a stone punched straight through the sump. Thankfully the neighbour saw it happen and came over to help!
Most recently, and most embarassingly, I was on a WIMA Qld ride. I am the ride coordinator, of all people I should at least look like I know what I am doing! I was on the side of a hill, about to pull into a u-turn. I let the clutch out, started to lift my feet, didn't give it enough throttle, and over she went! I couldn't save it completely, but I could at least lower it to the ground!
A very generous guy with a recent injury of a broken scapule, ribs & a pneumothorax jumped in and lifted it like it was a toy! Thanks Ponti!
I bet you were hurting after that!
Fingers crossed to no more drops.....
Anyway, the point of the story is that everyone drops their bikes, come more than others....

cripes esie, hope you have gotten it all out of your system, a few expensive lessons there. The only propper drop (it hit the ground) i've had (yet) is when i had my EL250 4 yrs ago and i had been riding for precisely 1.5 months.
I was at a service station on a trip to phillip island (hey i was comfortable, i'd been driving for 6-7 years at that point) and had a sneaking suspicion i may have been burning some oil. Anyway standing on the raised concrete blocks the pumps were on, i pulled the bike towards me to check the oil level window.
Combining the fact i was a bit knackered with the bike being top heavy with the panniers, the bike tipped towards me, i couldnt recover it and the nice guy in the 4x4 in front of me helped me get her back on her sidestand after the muffler slowly touched down (past owner had skidded the hell out of it so it was already munted).
My closest call was when i was frigging around with my GPX750 on the centrestand (chain lube session) while discussing something with a mate before we went on a ride. Anyhow i didnt realise i'd flicked the sidestand up (out of habit i kept it down in case i ever forgot) and pulled the bike off the c-stand while standing beside it, instead of on it like usual. Anyway the bike got over 40' from vertical, he started laughing and i swore at him to come help me lift her back up. i got her most the way up, he helped me steady her a bit while i flicked the sidestand down with my foot.
Now that was a fun situation i'll happily never ever do again. *starts thinking about a rear race stand.....

i am not even going to tell my story its far to embaressing and retarded!!
actually yes i will!!! well when i was a little nooby biker i parked the ol ZX-2R on a forwards facing slope, foolishly left it in neutral, well as u can all imagine the bike rolled forward, and fell over into a brick wall causing the rear end to crack and smash and even today there is a nice thick mark down the wall from where the bike decided to kiss it!
haven't dropped the 6 yet (touchs wood, actually my computer desk is made of wood)

This thread is sexist and rudie ......NortikittyKat wrote:as 'bout as close as you can get I reckon... just ask me!Lainie wrote:us females can't be 100% perfect we come damn close though
The worse thing about it is I couldn't lift it back up and had to start ringing boys I knew that could come and stand it back up for me...
I am not one to EVER admit I need a man to help me out... but there are just some things that they do come in use for....

All this talk of going down , doing it in the privacy of your own garage and mentioning self abuse ( you'll all go to hell with burnt fingers )
And I want out , Goodday

Actually I just remembered about the time I dropped my good old GPz750 it was about ummmmmm 17 years ago
I pulled up the driveway put the stand down and leant the bike over but managed to get the stand between the concrete and grass edge and it was soft ground and it sunk straight in! by the time I realised it was going over it was too far gone (and too heavy!) to hold up, I suppose I was lucky in that I only broke a mirror
