that advert was on telly last night, my missus had a mini rant about it saying "well i might take this friggin seriously if they had the rights and didnt DELAY the telecast all because of some other tv show, i mean isnt that the whole point of buying the rights? they should have to forfeit the rights to it if they cannot show it live", i mentioned this thread and said its about being greedy and keeping it off other telly stations.

They should sell Primary and Secondary rights.

Anything live withing 30 minutes primary, and anything outside secondary.

And if they don't meet the commitment to the sport of showing the event within the contractual time frame, they forefit their contract and all monies. At the end of the day the sporting bodies should be the ones complaining about the representation of their game/event.

Why delay a game by 1 hour to encourage people to go to the local event when the bloody thing is sold out to 40-60,000 people... What a bullshit excuse that is..

Maybe sell the writes to multiple stations with a roster scenario with the same sort of time frame commitment.. And encourage Digital Television... So many people have access to it, but no one wants to use the bloody thing.. RRRrrrr

1,000's of people don't have digital because there is no incentive to get it.. Make one.. use it to compete with foxtel.. show sporting replays, rotate it with movies/shows for sporting events so that 1 week well by fuck it's delayed as usual.. But the next week it's live and the usual crap is on the digital channel if you want to watch it.

/end rant...

Glen wrote:... and another great example of the uselessnes of free to air.

Wanna watch the tri nations Rugby on Saturday? Nine have the rights and are broadcasting it on a 90 minute delay. Why you ask?

Well, because we can't move Australia's Funniest Home Video's can we...
yeah your right about that.
When free to air get serious about showing sport then I will sign it. It is only through their own lack of effort, incompetance and poor planning that foxtel has swooped on major sporting events, and good on em, cause at least I can watch stuff live even if I have to pay for it....

GO FOXTEL !!

Commercial stations dont "do" shows, they "do" ads - it's the commerce part of commercial....content is just how they fill the gaps between ads.
If it's new, old, repeated, whatever they don't care as long as theres an audience. Most people are gunna still watch a delayed telecast because there is no better altenative. TV learned long ago that there's no commercial difference between a happy audience and a pissed off audience.

Good example is the morning shows (Sunrise etc.) it's ad city!! Most content doesn't go long enough to put me shoes on without an ad break.

Free to air sport crap is not what they yap on about (a fair go for viewers) it's really about commercial stations retaining access to audience by keeping something exclusive from pay TV that people will watch and that they can sell to advertisers.
Just one more law and everyone will be safe.
