Hang on, bike riders are more aware of other road users than car drivers. It would make more sense to issue a bike licence before a car, just think car drivers that started on the other side of the fence :roll: . If this was the case there would be less young drivers getting killed by lack of knowledge and stupid actions than being able to jump into a high powered Jap import, only to wrap up a tree like an X-mas pressy :evil:

Yeah might be pessamistic but it seems to be a knee jerk response by beurocrats to lessen road deaths,seems to me they would be better off training all car/bike riders on courses before they get their full license on advanced rider courses

the logic being used is as follows
1) Try to think of stupid things to do that will make us more popular.
2) gee theres a few fatalities
3) oh a number of those must be bikes
4) bike riders must be shit at riding and need further training
5) lets do something that'll make us look good!
6) To the batcave, erm, political HQ.

completely overlooking the fact that more training is needed full stop, q ride as it is now (from what ive been told by qld-ers) is probably causing more problems than it is solving (i mean, bypass the learning stage and jump on whatever the f&#*#& you want? what hotblooded twat would want to pass that up if elegible?)

not to mention the fact that a number of deaths would be initiated by other road users, (remember though, lots of single vehicle acco's without any other vehicles have still had fatalities)

Bloody hell! WTF are they thinking? Morons let bodgy QRide providers continue, and then go overboard here????
BTW Q Ride isn't a bad system. Problem is one of application- if service providers do the courses 'properly', the bulk of clients go elsewhere because it is cheaper to do so- fewer hours means fewer $$$$$. No auditing of course outcomes is another problem. Someone from QT told me the other day that MC accidents are up 80% in QLD since Q Ride. :?

I've blurted on previously about how I think we will see several categories of licence appear, and how the g'ment will try and keep younger people (<24) off 1L road rockets. None of it necessarily a bad idea. I'll say again that it is really the motorcycling community that needs to come up with the ideas for realistic change.

If you are going to sign that petition, it is really a wasted opportunity if you don't also sign your support for a sensible alternative.

In the end, if we don't come up with something, something will come up on us.

I got my bike licence thru Q-Ride, SO what makes you guys any safer on the road than me?

What about making Q-Ride courses harder to obtain your open licence?

No one necessarily is safer than you. What sux though is service providers who write out licences without any practical test, no manoevres etc. (I know this first hand.) Also service providers who take no-experience candidates and give them an R class licence the same day, later selling them an R1 or the like.
Heard a rumour this week that a dealer who supplies Q ride granted a client a licence and after buying her new bike from the service provider, promptly rode the NEW bike through the window on their shopfront on the other side of the WIDE road, after going up the slight incline and through the glass. Might have been a good time to reconsider whether she was competent enough to pass. :x They delivered the bike to her home and I wonder what happened after that.
My wonder is how poor standards of testing will affect motorcycling in Queensland in future? May sound paraniod, but IF accident rates INCREASE enough, what harsh countermeasures could be implemented in future for all motorcyclists? Hmmmmmmm :?

Read what bonester said above: It's the way its being implimented that would be the problem. They need to get rid of the cowboys in it 110% for the easy money. From what i've heard (and being in nsw this could just all be wrong) theres barely any feedback from the assessing companies back to qld transport, and theres a couple of dodgy players (companies) about certifying some people, who are at best barely skilled enough to ride a 250 on a acre of private bitumen are out there riding whatever the hell they want on the road.

Im not saying EVERYONE who went through q-ride sucks like a $2.50 hooker in Thailand. But i am saying that through these issues they are letting some people through & ride whatever the hell they want when they should honestly be further down the food chain. If only to make it less likely they'll kill themselves by riding a smaller capacity bike while they unlearn any bad habits & learn good ones.

Hey I'm going to Bankok/Thailand in March next year for a week so where do you recommend?

Why does the QLD Govt not police it?

My Q-Ride involved a 30min basic ride around town before we started the main test, so to make sure that my friends & I could ride.
The tester said he has had people with years of supposed riding experience only to find out on the 30min test ride they can barely stay on the bike.

After making sure we could actually ride he took us to do the slalom/braking/ road positioning/dirt roads/ etc etc..

I think it took 4hrs to do the test?

Yeah, I think there is too little enforcement of the standards. To be honest, I think my QRide, with benefit of hindsight, sucked. I really sucked, and I wasn't ready for my licence, but I got it anyway...luckily I was guided by common sense...somehow managed to keep myself from major harm for nearly 3 years now.

But I really think that there has to be some major changes- they wouldn't be looking at restricting things if everything was OK, eh?

this is BS, they should be looking at restricting cc's or better/more training before they look at implementing this compulsory car licence stint b 4 u can get ur bike licence

well put a submission/complaint in while its still in the early stages and they can even pretend to give a shit about what you think. Just make sure it's printed out and send in an envelope!
