the covering up of the camera technically isn't illegal - they could say it was covered to insure it wasn't targeted and damaged seeing as its unmanned.

Also remember - the radar set ups are not police, it is an outsourced company who sets up and run them, if i owned the company - i'd spend alot of money developing new cameras such as this. could be a taste of things to come.

They look like the same unit, I would say its to get the rear numberplate each way...

I thought that Transport SA had a couple speed detection camera things , that look like these for getting stats on speeding and the like.
They dont use them to give out tickets, just to monitor.

do they have to sign post if they are going to place a camera i know in certain states they have to by law, which is fair enough! if i was close to those guys i would jsut go cause havoc on the cameras

Camera unit has a camera mounted on a tripod. It only shoots in one direction. The detection device and the camera are mounted on the same tripod. The two different photos here are of the same camera at different locations.

They use them to detect your speed and then post out tickets.

Apparently they can be concealed in such a manner. They have to have a "Speed cameras save lives and pay for donuts" sign up after the camera and a camera operator has to be able to see the camera from their location.

On closer inspection of the first photo, there is a black cable running from the camera and more than likely it goes to the camera car. Could be 100 odd metres away.

It's quite sneaky, but I believe fits into the requirements of the legislation.

Don't speed. Go to Mallala or Mac Park for a track day. It's cheaper and more fun.

No, they aren't. They are attached to a car via a cable. There's a person in the car watching. Dunno if they'd get out and chase you tho.

I have seen the camera car sitting there and cant believe it. It is so illegally parked!! How does he get there without jumping the gutter driving over the foot path and parking up against the bus shelter. Setting a terrible example for what they would crusify anyone else for doing.

heard a rumour today that this was in the 'tiser yesterday, and the RAA and other bodies have already lodged official complaints, and that it will be revoked, and all fines will be revoked...dunno how true it is...

Nope, Have asked the 4 other riders with me as well and there was none.

I don't have anything against the boys in blue. I think they they have one of the hardest jobs and get paid not enough to be dealing with the shitbags of society every day. But the dickhead who set this thing up is a tosser. How long did it take this dickhead to setup and then hide the camera, then sit on his fat arse reading the paper in his car 100m away. Surely that time would be better spent catching real crooks! Speeding is illegal and the cops have job, but that is BULLSHIT!

The camera has been set up on Gorge Rd the last couple of weekends. They have approval to operate the camera in that manner. Apparently traditional policing methods and overt camera use hasn't been slowing people up on that road.

Hardly suprising when 19 motorcyclists have been killed on South Australian roads this year!
