Race glass?

It has been suggested that because I am having the 636 lowered by 50mm, that I get the bottom fairing replaced with race glass, in the event that should I have a scrape, it will be easier/cheaper to fix.

If anyone has contacts for cheap race glass (ideally in NSW but if not that is OK), can you please let me know? Thanks

So the bike would actually be lowered by 50mm? as in the bottom fairing would be?

Hardly seems like a need to replace the fairing for that.........

Up to you ofcourse..... just seems a bit extreme for 50mm....

Suggestion:
After having it lowered measure the distance from the fairing to the ground, then measure some other bikes.... I bet that you will find that that many other bikes are the same height

Thanks for the info Stereo, I'd rather not have to do it if at all possible, so I'll measure it and then see how it compares to others, as you suggested.

i got a race fairing for my 6.

the bloke who made it was saying that they are all different and most fairings wont interchange with other brand race fairings or with standard fairings.

i think if you wanted to get just a belly pan you would probably have to find someone who was making fibreglass copies of standard fairings.

a mate just bought a new belly pan for his 10 from kawasaki and it only cost about $250

so it might be worth not even bothering and crossing that bridge should you ever damage it. another option is just repairing any damage.

i was involved in some bike repairs earlier this year and what i thought was stuffed beyond repair they were able to fix - and quite cheaply too.

Thanks for that My main concern is cost of replacement and was told it would be cheaper to replace race glass than replace the original bellypan fairing..

I think the issue with lowering is the reduction of ride height brings stuff closer to the ground when cornering. With a Zx12 that is a bellypan issue as it scrapes from standard height (eh Gos), but with the skinny 6 it could be other odds and sods.

I's say get a friend(s) to help and tip it over in a cornering pose and see what touches first. Sure as hell won't be the exhaust

yes mate it does, and it also doesn't help if you are carrying a few extra kilos as well

funny thing, the 12 *never* touched anything on the deck when the suspension was stock, and pretty soggy.

Almost as soon as Ponti had done some work to it, upped the pre-load and damping at both ends, it felt way better to ride, and thats when the shenanigans started. I don't think it was a ride-height issue, it just came down to the bike feeling so much better when pushed hard, that it eventually started getting friendly with the tarmac....

Cougs - a 50mm drop is fairly substantial, but may only be a real problem when negotiating speed humps etc, at low speeds, and in a 'straight ahead' position. At speed, as long as the suspension is set up correctly, you may not notice any difference at all in cornering clearance.......just depends on your riding style really. You will probably get your toes down a bit more often.

Speeds bumps won't be a problem if you wheelie over them...
