Test rides....
Test rides....
So i wanted to test ride a zx10r, so i cruise off to the dealer, sit there talking to the guy about how much i would love to buy one, how i had the $$$ and how i just needed to see what the bike was like to sway my money out of my pocket .. of course i was bullshitting but they wouldnt come to the party.. i was like wtf.
how the hell do you guys swing test rides when you do ? maybe its because i look young but i rocked up on my 636 with full gear on etc to look serious.. still no deal!
i tried two dealerships neither wanted to let me touch the keys to there bikes.. how do they expect to sell them ? i test drove a car without even having to say a thing the guy basically through the keys at me and insisted.

I walked into RR in Brooklyn and said I was interested in a 10. First thing they did was press the keys into my hand and said take it for a ride. Maybe ring a few dealerships to see if they have a demo model. Kinda hard to for them to sell bikes if they wont let people test them out though....

As much as motorcycle salesman dwell about one rung up the evolutionary ladder from Amoeba they're actually pretty adept at picking tyre kickers from people that are seriously considering buying. I think you got a clever one.
Try looking old. Works for most of us...ahem... more mature people.

DESPITE my uneviable history I am very nice to other ppl's bikes
and because I tend to treat them like they should (in the RIGHT place of course) I guess that the dealer has come to take what I say at face value
My dealers know me (i do NOT ride Hondas, OK maybe a CR) and respect (gasp) the advice I give on their new models. ex. Kwaka dealer with the 14, nice but sort it (restrictors) and give me the R, Trump 675, nice, TOO nice, give me something that scares me a bit (TOO Honda, like the 14 really)
Just turn up, thrash their bike, use their fuel and leaving is not really very nice manners. It doesnt take long to say, its sux because.....
Man the first time I rode a Rocket 3 I spoke to the salesmen for an hour on WHY it sucked (they spruked it up too big in my opinion, make you trade away from an R1? AS IF, fools
) But let them know the 2nd gear roll ons are sweet. And 14's mono REALLY kewl, and the 675 turns like a bitch and the sound is AWESOME.
What do you judge against ?
Good handling is a 7R, good power is 12R (now the 14 above 5), best track is a 10R (twitchy and short on the road for me, ME that is). Admit that other brands do some things better (Ducati V-twins, GSXR 750's its evolution I tell you) and let the dealer (who IS the owner for all intents and purposes) know what is good and bad about it and what you think of the price too. make it worth his (or her, Hi Sue) while.
BUT I am also 42
I doubt ground knee sliders will impress a prospective borrower for a start, unless he is selling a Duc
.
What do the tyres on your 6 look like, WORN with pride I bet
What other clues did you give them .... hmmmm....
Looks like you are gonna have to move out the cities mate
Oh hold on, you have track days and heaps of shops, and chicks and

Re: Test rides....
Next time, try ringing the dealership first. It might pay off. Also, it will really help if you are a regular customer, that way they know you a bit better, this could be a good thing (sometimes it isn't....mitch179 wrote: .. of course i was bullshitting but they wouldnt come to the party.. i was like wtf.

Regular customers get good deals. They rang me at work to arrange a test ride when the first ZX14 was uncrated at the local dealer a few months ago........but I had been bugging them for months about it, so I guess persistence also pays off....
